MUSICYUKON PRIVACY STATEMENT
Welcome to MusicYukon!
Thanks for your interest in what we consider the most consistently vibrant sector of the Yukon's Cultural Industries. MusicYukon was first incorporated as RAIYA (the Recording Arts Industry - Yukon Association) as a not-for-profit Society in 1998. The decision to change names was made to assist in 'branding' product for export. Started with 20 members and now numbering more than 150, it is run by three contract staff reporting to the Board through its Executive Director. The directors represent a variety of disciplines within the music industry. Our mandate is to advocate for the business training needs of our recording artists towards development of the industry as a whole, and at the same time to encourage educational programming and mentoring for its entry-level members. We constantly strive for continued economic growth in our industry as changes in technology and communication bring new methods of distribution and delivery of our recorded products outside the Yukon and to the global market. We are a conduit of information, providing our members with direct links from other music industry associations across Canada and internationally.

Kluane Lake The Southern Tutchone name means 'big whitefish lake'. The Tlingit name ùxh-àní 'whitefish country' is the source of the English name Kluane, and the Southern Tutchone ù'àn is probably adapted from it as well. This is a good fishing lake for whitefish, trout and thì or dog salmon. The lake is the largest in the Yukon. It is deep and has dangerous boating conditions at certain times of the year. The first non-natives to try boating on Kluane, E.J. Glave and Jack Dalton, almost died in the attempt. The Alaska Highway goes along the south side of the lake and carries many travelers year-round. Did You Know? The 1903-1904 Kluane gold rush probably brought the first non-native settlers to the area. Louis and Gene Jacquot from the Alsace region of France established the trading post at Burwash Landing about 1904. Shortly after they began building cabins for the families from the upper White and Donjek River area who would stop to trade during their seasonal rounds. Eventually these families settled here. Jimmy Joe's father, Copper Joe, who died in 1943, was the one person most responsible for the move to Burwash Landing. The Aishihik people also traded at Burwash Landing. They came through Isaac and Gladstone Creeks and built huge signal fires on the shore of Kluane Lake. The traders would send a boat over to pick up the people who wished to trade. The Jacquots had forty or fifty horses which packed supplies from Whitehorse to Christmas Creek and later to Kluane from where the supplies were boated to Burwash Landing. The wagon trail, the road and finally the Alaska highway followed much of this route. The brothers also ran a sport hunting business.

highway tunnels and rock fall sheds
RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN CALIFORNIA AND JAPAN
This lecture will be presented by Duncan C. Wyllie, a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, the University of New South Wales, Australia, and the University of London. He specializes in rock engineering and has worked in this field for 37 years. During this time, he has been involved in a wide variety of railway, highway and industrial development projects in North and South America, Asia, and the Middle East. Typical assignments include the design and construction of slopes and tunnels, foundations of bridges and dams, and the study of landslides. On many of these projects, the design and evaluation of blasting procedures was an important part of the work One of Duncan’s specialties is the assessment of rock fall hazards, and the design and implementation of remedial measures; he carried out the initial development of a widely used hazard rating system for highways in mountainous terrain. He has also worked in the mining industry in the design of open pit slopes, underground support and tailings dams.

    knives are usable art...

C alling himself Bandit Yukon, Roberts has been making his handcrafted knives for 15 years, most recently in his shop in McCrae, Whitehorse Yukon, Canada.
H e started making knives in 1984, primarily for hunters, fishermen and collectors. At that time, he was based in Parkill Ontario, a small community near Sarnia, and running a fishing lodge near Wawa, in the northern part of the province, in the summer. He couldn't find knives made of a high quality steel for cleaning fish, so he started making his own.
I n 1994, he became the first president of the Canadian Knife Makers' Guild. Currently, he's the territory's only member in the organization.
I n addition to both fixed blade and folding knives, he makes related tools, such as skinning axes, ulus and knife and fork sets for carving meat.
T he internet is relatively new to George and he is committed to further development on this site, depicting more of his products. The fixed blades shown below are just some of his work which includes folders as well.
H e sells knives all over the world through trade shows he attends and through word of mouth.
