    Geomatics Yukon provides a service through Client Services, Information and Communications Technology Branch, Department of Highways and Public Works, Government of Yukon. This unit provides corporate coordination, support and liaison for geomatics activities within the Yukon Goverment and with external partners and customers, addresses gaps in geomatics activities and data, and provides a single window through which customers can access Yukon spatial data and services. Geomatics Yukon defines geomatics as a technology and service sector focusing on the acquisition, storage, analysis, dissemination, and management of spatial data, including the disciplines of GIS (Geographic Information Systems), remote sensing, GPS (Global Positioning Systems) and cartography.

Old Crow lies far from the Yukon's highway system, and is accessible only by air; almost everythingfrom groceries to snow machine parts and vehiclesarrives by air. A winter ice road has occasionally been built, permitting importation of large equipment. Air North travels to and from Whitehorse six days a week. Its cargo includes dogs, televisions, food and building supplies. Its passengers include tourists, consultants, scientists, visiting and returning community members, high school students and VGFN, YTG and federal government officials. Two Bed and Breakfast businesses accommodate visitors and are often booked up. Our small community of log cabins, located at the confluence of the Porcupine and Crow rivers, is home to nearly 300 members of the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation. The lives of the Vuntut Gwitchin revolve around seasonal activities: the spring and fall migrations of the Porcupine Caribou Herd, hunting, trapping, fishing and gathering. The Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation has settled its Land Claim Final Agreement and is actively engaged in the work of Self Government.

    Fax: 867-821-4006 Email printable version Yukon College Carcross Campus serves the communities of Carcross and Tagish. Carcross, or Caribou Crossing as it was known by the Goldrush stampeders, is located midway between Whitehorse, Yukon, and Skagway, Alaska, on the narrows that separate Bennet and Nares Lakes. Tagish is approximately 35kms east of Carcross. Both communities are home to members of the Carcross/Tagish First Nation, as well as a sizeable non-First Nations' population. The campus, which has been operating in Carcross in various guises since the late 1970's, offers a wide variety of College programming. It also works with C/TFN and other community groups to develop curriculum to meet the specific needs of Carcross and Tagish residents. Examples of locally-developed curriculum include a video production program, a First Nation's clan research project, and a course in equine parisitology! The campus is staffed by one full-time employee and one part-time employee.
