Forms
There are three main forms of youth activism. The first simply relies on youth involvement in social activism. This is the predominant form of youth activism today, as millions of young people around the world participate in social activism that is organized, informed, led, and assessed by adults. Many efforts, including education reform children's rights , and government reform call on youth to participate this way, often called youth voice Youth councils are an example of this.

Anti-war Youth Activism Explodes-Bring it on!
by roseeriter

This is good news! Our young citizens are stepping to the forefront.
What do pacifist student activist have in common with "red state" military families and war veterans? In North Carolina - home of the Ft. Bragg military base - they're both looking forward to the biggest demonstration against the Iraq War their area has ever seen. Hopefully this movement will continue to grow. This specific demonstration that we're working toward is unusual as well. It will bring together military families, veterans, and their supporters for a rally calling for the United States to bring the troops home and end the war. That's unusual because most in our activist community don't identify with military families and veterans, for several reasons. First, Guilford is a Quaker school, and many in our activist community are pacifists. Cultural and class conflicts have often made our organizing more fragmented than it should be. Yet, a higher number than usual of our students (compared to other actions) are not only committed to going to the demonstration, but are actively organizing on our campus as well. For example, we are reaching more and more students who are natives of the South. Some of the main leaders of our organizing committee for the March 19th action were born and raised in Greensboro. A specific person who signed up to get involved recently stands out in my mind this guy, an adult education student at Guilford, is a native of North Carolina who is a semi-retired 11-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps and drives race cars for a living. You don't get much more "red state" than that.

Youth Peacebuilding and Leadership Programs
The programs offer experiential simulations and informational sessions to help the participants develop skills for social action, dialogue about difficult issues, and group decision-making, and conflict transformation. Faculty and staff run short workshops in which the participants are challenged to heighten their skills of observation, reflection, critical analysis and problem-solving as they relate to intercultural situations. The Youth Peacebuilding Camps include a balanced representation of young people from different sides of a conflict, such as Greek and Turkish Cypriots, Israelis and Palestinians, and representatives from other groups in conflict. They range in ages 15 to 20 and have the demonstrated maturity and leadership potential needed for the camp, as well as the commitment to participate in follow up activities when they return home. The knowledge and skills gained are applied toward a personal working definition and operating model of effective intercultural communication. Other sessions emphasize self-knowledge and communication skills for teens. Outside of these focused group sessions, the participants engage in outdoor challenge, recreational and social activities designed to help them utilize the knowledge and skills gained in the training and informational sessions. Processing of these activities stimulate reflection and discussion of the issues raised during the group sessions in addition to providing fun, relaxation and sharing among the participants. Working with facilitators from their countries, the students develop strategies for working toward peace, understanding, and social justice when they return to their homes.
