44. Library Cards
Because your library card information is part of the statewide wyoming libraries out library materials. Wyoming has an excellent network of libraries;
http://www.wwcc.wy.edu/library/librarycard.html
Library Cards To obtain a library card, please come to the library help desk and fill out a short
application form.
If you live too far away to come to the library (or even if it is just inconvenient to
do so for whatever reason), please fill out and submit the form below.
It only takes a couple of minutes.
Why do we make you fill out this form when you have already filled out too many
other forms as part of the student registration process?
Because your library card information is part of the statewide Wyoming Libraries
Database a computer system separate from WWCC's system. With your library card
you can walk into any public or community college library in the state and check
out library materials. Wyoming has an excellent network of libraries; few other states have this kind of cooperative agreement. If you have a WWCC student (or faculty/staff) ID card, it will also be your library card once we activate it by entering your name and address into the Wyoming Libraries Database system.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Library
Q: Where did the teen books/movies/music/computer classes go? A: The renovations to the library basement are finished, giving us some great new public spaces. We now have a dedicated computer lab, and the Young Adult Department has 1/3 more space. Check out an updated map of the Basement or the Main Floor Q: How do I renew my books, videos, etc. online? A: Follow these steps:
  • Go to the online catalog Click the link to "Your Account Information" in the right column, under the heading "Catalog Help". Click the link to "Renew My Materials". You will be asked to enter you userID (library card number) and PIN. Then click the "List Charged Items" button.
    • If you do not know your PIN, call the library and we can look it up for you. Gillette residents should call 682-3223, Wright residents should call 464-0500.
The next screen will show everything checked out on your card and allow you to renew all items or just individual items.

60. Selenium And Soils In The Western United States
November 1997 Issue 7, Selenium and Soils in the Western United States by FrancieBauer University of wyoming libraries

November 1997
Issue 7 Selenium and Soils in the Western United States
by Francie Bauer
University of Wyoming Libraries Introduction Selenium supplements have been promoted as an aid in preventing cancer. It is believed to act much like vitamin E in helping to prevent the damage done to cell tissue by oxidation. At the same time, certain types of selenium compounds, such as selenium sulfide, have been thought to cause cancer. A normal diet containing grains cereals and meat is considered to be sufficient to avoid the harmful effects of insufficient selenium intake. However, even small amounts of 5-10 times the RDA can cause toxicity or chronic selenosis. An overdose of selenium supplements can cause death. Since selenium is a naturally occurring element and so widely prevalent in varying amounts in a variety of soils, plants and animals, a better understanding of selenium chemical interaction in solid, liquid and gaseous form is essential. The government has also found that, of the 1,430 current or former hazardous waste sites on the National Priorities List, at least 367 have varying amounts of selenium present (ATSDR - Public Health Statement: Selenium 1989). The government considers this noteworthy, since overexposure to selenium can have a detrimental effect on human and animal health. For a complete description of the effects of selenium on human health and a summary of studies that have been done, see the Toxicological Profile for Selenium (NTIS PB97-121032xsp) put out by the U.S. Public Health Service.
