Grand Teton Park
... SEND THIS PAGE TO A FRIEND Geography Sleeping Indian in great white light Jackson Hole is a valley about 80 miles long and 15 miles wide. It is encompasses national forest, Grand Teton National Park and the National Elk Refuge. The valley floor is between 6,200' and 6,800.'
To the north, Jackson Hole is bordered by Yellowstone and is elsewhere surrounded by more national forests. The towns of Moose, Kelly and Wilson are also in Jackson Hole. Tetons in the misty morning The Teton Range
Rocky Mountain landscapes typically offer picturesque views, but few are more impressive than the Teton skyline. The Tetons are the youngest of the Rockies. The range was born some nine million years ago by intermittent, but violent, seismic activity. Because of the way the mountains formed, no foothills hide Jackson Hole's jagged peaks and broad canyons. At the base of the range, large lakes mirror the mountains on calm summer days, doubling their prominence.
Prior to the 1820s, Native Americans referred to the mountains as "the Hoary Brothers." Later, they were known as "the Pilot Knobs." Around 1920, however, French Canadian trappers named them "Les Trois Tetons," or "The Three Breasts."

Geography is an exciting and challenging field of study, a rapidly changing discipline in a rapidly changing world. Our department offers a diverse set of programs in geography, planning, and natural resources management. The department is especially well located for the geographical study of human and biophysical phenomena of the Rocky Mountain/Great Plains region. Similarly, it is well located for the study of recreation resources of Wyoming and the West - as well as for planning applied to small towns (or counties and similar units) and for government natural resource agencies. Curricula focus on the nature, origin, and behavior of the natural environment and how humans spatially interact among themselves and their surroundings.

Some have more than one (e.g., one for petroleum resources, one for general geology, and one for water resources), and some have delegated the responsibilities to a unit within a state university. Most, but not all of these institutions are connected to the Internet. For all of these agencies, we've included snail mail addresses as well as known e-mail and Internet links.
