It lies between 41 degrees and 45 degrees N. lat. and 27 degrees and 34 degrees long. west of Washington; it is bounded by Montana, South Dakota , Nebraska, Colorado , Utah, and Idaho. It includes an area of 97,883 square miles, a territory equal to that of the two States of New York and Pennsylvania, or greater than all of the New England states combined.
I. PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS
In general appearance the topography is mountainous with valleys, rolling plains, and broad plateaux. The mountains have a genreal diretion from north-west to south-east, but are not continuous across the state, presenting more often the appearance of broken or detached spurs. The main range of the Rocky Mountains entering from the south terminates in the Wind River Range and is snow-capped throughout the year, the elevation being from 6000 to 14,000 feet. Other ranges are the Big Horn, Owl, Rattle Snake, Medicine Bow, Sierre Madre, Teton, Yellowstone, and the Blak Hills extending into the state from South Dakota on the eastern border. The highest peak is Fremont's Peak in the Wind River Range, 13,790 feet. Other high points are Teton Peak, 13,690 feet, and Clouds Peak, 13,691 feet. Numerous rivers including the Yellowstone, Big Horn, Snake, Green, Cheyenne, Belle Fourche, and Powder have their head-waters within the state. The North Platte and Big Laramie enter the state from

Be specific, Crank tells educators By JOAN BARRON
Star-Tribune capital bureau CHEYENNE Members of the education coalition are upset about something but aren't clear about the target of their objections, says Attorney General Pat Crank.
The education coalition, a group that includes 30 of the state's 48 school districts, the Wyoming Education Association (WEA) and the Wyoming School Board Association, on Monday called for the state to produce proof the state's school finance system is constitutional to end once and for all litigation that began 12 years ago.
The petition, filed with Laramie County District Court Judge Nicholas Kalokathis, who has continuing jurisdiction over the school finance case, asked the court to require the state to demonstrate that it has complied with the Wyoming Supreme Court mandate to guarantee each child a quality education whether he or she lives in a rich or poor school district as the Wyoming Constitution requires.

The vast bulk of it went to the very priorities most lawmakers targeted before the session began education, corrections and savings with schools, both K-12 and higher education, getting close to half. (See box.)
Michael Walden-Newman, director of the Wyoming Taxpayers Association, said most of the calls he received during the session were from people who had two main questions:
What exactly is the surplus?

State Improvement Grant Applications Funded in 2001 Wyoming Abstract Basic Information Improvement Strategies Return to Main Page Wyoming Abstract or Conceptual Framework for State Systemic Change The Wyoming State Improvement Grant (WySIG) project, "Project Readiness," proposes to build a systemic reform approach to ensure that all students, including students with special needs,, actively participate in the regular classroom as Wyoming moves to a rigorous, standards-based educational system. Students with disabilities will receive the core educational services and programs that will enable them to master all of the state standards, beginning with the graduating class of 2005 and beyond. The four basic components of this reform approach involve:
  • Creating partnerships to implement this reform project.
All the initiatives proposed for this project begin and end with standards. This project begins by identifying the needs of the student with a disability and then proposing and executing activities that ultimately help that student meet the standards all other students are expected to meet and be a productive citizen. To achieve that, changes will be made at the school level, LEA and the state level to help the student. The activities proposed in this project are designed and directed to achieve that goal. The ultimate outcome is to change policy at the state level by involving all the stakeholders and increasing the effectiveness of inclusive classroom practices by educators.
