    Enzi applauds Catchpole selection
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., commented today on Wyoming Superintendent of Public Instruction Judy Catchpole's selection as a negotiator on a committee that will help develop new rules related to standards and assessments under Title I of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.
Enzi is a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee and Senate-House Joint Education Conference Committee that authored the underlying law with the White House.
    Enzi's comments follow.
"I worked hard to include in the law, the flexibility that rural schools need. Wyoming schools must have the room to operate within this law in order to provide maximum benefit to our kids," said Enzi. "I'm very pleased to be joined by Judy on the inside of this ongoing process. She will be one of only 21 members of a negotiating committee that will help develop new rules related to standards and assessments under Title I (Part A) of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. Wyoming's unique views will be well-represented. As the only state superintendent on this panel she will not only be representing Wyoming, but also state Departments of Education from across the country. I also applaud the President and Education Secretary Rod Paige for being so willing to rely on the local perspective instead of approaching education with a Washington-knows-best attitude."

Enzi touts education guide for rural schools
Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., recommended an educational resource manual for rural educators today.
The guide, No Child Left Behind and Rural Education: Implications for Policy and Practice, was compiled by the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) and the National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE). The 335- page compliance manual has been individually designed to help rural and small schools meet the legal requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act.
"That's why the information in this guide is so important. Small and rural schools from across the country can learn directly from each other's experience to help make the No Child Left Behind Act a success," Enzi said, "This guide, together with technical assistance from the U.S. Department of Education, should help all of Wyoming's rural schools teach our children, who are the future of this great nation."
The manual is available at http://www.nasbe.org by clicking on the "Bookstore," and then on the "more NASBE reports" link.

This will be facilitated through statewide systemic and cost-effective improvements of mathematics and science education programs at all levels in the school system in order to accomplish a seamless, successful transition from school to a productive work force. We are dedicated to increasing public awareness and developing a broader understanding of the critical importance of mathematics and science as needed for the variety of futures we face. Current Activities Linking Leaders Members of the Wyoming education community included representatives of higher education, the state department of education, mathematics and science professional organizations, school boards and local superintendents. Of the 9 guests, 7 were from NASA. Participants assessed and discussed five components of Wyoming's system of mathematics and science education, suggested routes to improvement, and identified leaders who might assist in that work. A participant who is both a businessman and a member of the Wyoming legislature subsequently contacted workshop organizers to volunteer his services in taking next steps and, specifically, in working with Wyoming's business community and legislative leadership.
