Dear Readers: Dr. Charles Darling is undergoing additional surgery in late August. We are confident that as soon as he fully recovers he will once again be available to answer your questions. In the interim, please take advantage of the comprehensive system already in place. Charles is grateful for your good wishes and prayers and thanks you for your continued patience.

Trail : Creating a GUI with JFC/Swing
Lesson : Writing Event Listeners
General Information about Writing Event Listeners
EventObject , the superclass for all AWT and Swing events. Next, we introduce the concepts of low-level events and semantic events, recommending that you prefer semantic events when possible. The remainder of this section discusses implementation techniques you might use in some event listeners or see in event listeners created by other people or by GUI builders.
Design Considerations
The most important rule to keep in mind about event listeners that they should execute very quickly. Because all drawing and event-listening methods are executed in the same thread, a slow event-listener method can make the program seem unresponsive and slow to repaint itself. If you need to perform some lengthy operation as the result of an event, do it by starting up another thread (or somehow sending a request to another thread) to perform the operation. For help on using threads, see How to Use Threads You have many choices on how to implement an event listener. We can't recommend a specific approach because one solution won't suit all situations. However, we can give you some hints and show you some techniques that you might see, even if you don't use the same solution in your program.

This is why: This entry is composed of two seperatre stories. One is of how I drove a guy out of my Intro. to Business class by writing a NC-17, PWP and the other is a Dairy Queen story. The first is for Maderr who reminded me I have indeed written porn during class and the other is for Skylark because she reminded me of my own time in retail hell. Writing Porn During Class my page Intro. to Business was taught in one of those massive lecture halls, only without the tiered seating. Therefore the professor got up and taught to a sea of something like 300 heads and he could never tell what you were doing. People slept. People played Gameboy. People did their homework for other classes. No one cared that I was sitting there with a notebook writing about buttsex. Except for the guy sitting next to me.

providing students with the opportunity to study writing as a discipline, a means of self-expression, and a professional tool. photo by Nicholas Altenbernd The MIT Program in Writing and Humanistic Studies gives students the opportunity to learn the techniques, forms, and traditions of several kinds of writing, from basic expository prose to more advanced forms of non-fictional prose, fiction and poetry, science writing, scientific and technical communication and digital media. Our faculty consists of novelists, essayists, poets, translators, biographers, historians, engineers and scientists. Program subjects are arranged by four areas: exposition and rhetoric, creative writing, science writing and technical communication. In each area introductory subjects lead to more specialized advanced subjects. Introductory subjects are designed for students with little experience in writing. Advanced subjects are for students who have mastered the elements of sentence and paragraph structure. A number of the advanced subjects use writing as a vehicle to explore humanistic and scientific issues in a broad cultural context.

The first step in the successful writing of a history essay is to read There are three general ways in which the body of an essay can be constructed
http://www.coun.uvic.ca/learn/program/hndouts/histexam.html
THE WRITING OF A HISTORY ESSAY EXAMINATION
I. What to Look For
The first step in the successful writing of a history essay is to read the question carefully and understand what is being asked. Many writers spend their time writing "around" a question because, by failing to grasp immediately the essence of a question, they fail to perceive what the professor wants discussed. For example: "Without the contributions of George Washington, the rebelling Colonials would never have won the Revolutionary War. Discuss." In this question you are not being asked to recite a memorized factual summary of the contributions of George Washington to the revolutionary effort, nor are you being asked to spit back the major battle" of the War. Rather, you are being asked for an evaluation of George's contributionsa critical assessment made by yourself and based upon the knowledge which you have acquired, not memorized, from the lectures and readingswith references to the indispensability of such contribution".

Other Writing Sites The Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL) is additionally an excellent resource for questions. They have a hotline for grammar and mechanics specifics. AVOIDING PLAGIARISM The following guide defines and describes plagiarism and gives general guidelines for using sources in essays.
Policies on plagiarism may vary from course to course, and in some fields the definition of plagiarism may need to be extended or modified. If you have questions, check with your instructor or a reliable documentation guide in the field. Plagiarism Defined
Plagiarism is turning in or passing off someone else's work as your own. Sometimes, the line between borrowing and stealing is unclear. In an intellectual community, ideas are passed around freely. Most intellectual inquiry could not take place without borrowing from the work of others. Responsible, honest writers indicate their debts to others by clearly citing material that they have borrowed. Irresponsible or dishonest writers often fail to cite their borrowings and thus become guilty of plagiarism.
Plagiarized work is easy to recognize because it does not clearly indicate borrowing. It is full of facts, observations, and ideas the writer could not have developed on his or her own and is written in a different style. Experienced writers rely almost as much as plagiarizers on other writers; they know that their ideas are generated in the context of the ideas of others. As a matter of honor, they indicate their debts to other writers and by doing so they more clearly indicate their own original contributions.
