With Judith Miller in jail and subpoenas directed to journalists and news-gathering organizations on the rise, PEN American Center will hold a public program exploring the growing conflict over reporters’ privilege.
With Ronald Dworkin, Vanessa Legget, Anthony Lewis, Norman Pearlstine, and Helen Zia; moderated by Jeff Greenfield We have all watched in horror the suffering of those affected by Hurricane Katrina and the tragic delays in relief efforts. It is our hope that PEN can effectively channel our collective outrage and also provide some financial aid for those writers, translators, editors and agents most in need. Award-winning children's and young adult writers will read from banned and challenged books to sound the alarm about a recent surge in attacks on books in schools and public libraries, where librarians have had to fight to keep the likes of Harry Potter, The Color Purple, Native Son, and Heather Has Two Mommies on the shelves and available to young readers.

Childrens painting and drawing about the earthquake
The Turkey Research Centre translated a series of essays by Turkish schoolchildren about the August 17 1999 earthquake that killed some 18,000 people in Yalova, Izmit, Golcuk and Adapazari areas of Turkey. Since these essays were written, another earthquake in the nearby area around Bolu and Duzce on November 12th has killed another 800 people and left thousands homeless, some for the second time. The childrens' essays give an idea of the impact of the disaster. In response to many requests, we have now added to this site photographs taken during visits to the earthquake area by Turkey Research Centre volunteers. We hope to add more childrens' pictures soon. Sign the One Declaration “WE BELIEVE that in the best American tradition of helping others help themselves, now is the time to join with other countries in a historic pact for compassion and justice to help the poorest people of the world overcome AIDS and extreme poverty. WE RECOGNIZE that a pact including such measures as fair trade, debt relief, fighting corruption and directing additional resources for basic needs – education, health, clean water, food, and care for orphans – would transform the futures and hopes of an entire generation in the poorest countries, at a cost equal to just one percent more of the US budget. WE COMMIT ourselves - one person, one voice, one vote at a time - to make a better, safer world for all.” Click here to make a difference in YOUR world! Please hurry and do it today!

Let me ask you a question. Do you think writing children's books is easy? Why is this?
MUST EXACTLY what they want.
Like many people first starting out, I believed that you simply sat down and wrote a children's book. I didn't know that there were different types of children's books for different age groups. I didn't know that there were restrictions within these categories. I didn't know what made a good children's book. I didn't know what to do to improve my chances of being published. I do now. I have 55 published titles! You, my friend, don't need to spend many years learning about writing children's books. I have done most of the work for you. And I'm happy to share my knowledge with you.

htmlAdWH('93212820', '728', '90'); Main Christianity "And Forbid Them Not The Kingdom of Heaven Let no man despise thy youth, but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. "Suffer (allow) the children to come unto me, and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of God." Mark 10:14KJV Where do we as adults fail this command of Jesus? By not teaching our children about Him, hence, leaving them without any knowledge of our King. Without providing them knowledge we are forbidding them a passage to the kingdom. We must be an aurora for their paths. WHAT CAN WE DO? You might be asking how you can help out in such a violent world today when some parents just simply don't care. Perhaps you say, "is this not the parents job?" Let me ask you this:: Was it Jesus's JOB to suffer and die for us? For sure not, He did it because of His love for us. We need to have love like Jesus had and has. Yes, parents need to raise their children biblically. However, when they don't, and whether you have your own children or not, you need to look deep into the heart of a neighborhood child or teen. Pray about it and let Christ
