Birth rates are highest among minority ethnic groups
Britain's ethnic minorities are growing at 15 times the rate of the white population, newly-published research shows. Data collected by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) between 1992-1994 and 1997-1999 showed that the number of people from minority ethnic groups grew by 15% compared to 1% for white people. In its latest quarterly Population Trends report the ONS estimated the number of people from minority ethnic groups in Britain had hit four million - 7% of the population - for the first time. The report said: "The age-sex profiles and the proportions of each ethnic group born in the UK are greatly influenced by the timing of the various waves of immigration into this country as migrants are mainly young adults." An examination of the issues and conflicts related to the high population growth in the area.

Growth in Southwest Weld County Colorado
At least a quarter of a million people are predicted to move to Southwest Weld County over the next 20 years. This anticipated growth and the disputes between Weld County and surrounding municipalities are making the news. Disputes recently center on quality of life issues for residents of unincorporated Weld County and the impact these residents will have on nearby towns and cities. Should the concerns of these town officials trump the rights of property owners and developers who want to capitalize on this growth? What about environmental impacts such as water availability, air quality, wildlife habitat and open space? Some people are concerned about the loss of agricultural land to development. Who will pay for infrastructure development? What about the impact on transportation that all of these people will have? This is a resource for growth issues in Southwest Weld County, Colorado. This includes the areas around Carbon Valley / Tri-Town (Dacono, Frederick, and Firestone), Mead, Erie, Del Camino and Longmont. This include news about disputes with surrounding communities; sprawl issues such as water availability, environmental impacts, and loss of agricultural production; transportation impacts; quality of life; and private property rights.

Covers comsumption growth and population growth and their roles in urban sprawl.
http://www.sprawlcity.org/
DETROIT: Here is a city that, during the period of study, lost population but experienced profound sprawl. In light of that, how can population growth be considered an important factor in American sprawl? PORTLAND: It is at the top of most Smart Growthers' lists for best planning and execution of anti-sprawl efforts. What are the results in terms of sprawl? And if this is the best any Urbanized Area has been able to do, what does that tell us about what the average Smart Growth efforts will accomplish? LOS ANGELES: If a chief goal of Smart Growth is to increase the density of Urbanized Areas, then Los Angeles is a champion of Smart Growth. So with all that de facto Smart Growth, why is L.A. mainly seen as a champion of sprawl? Population growth and increased per capita land consumption have played almost equal roles in the loss of some 1200 square miles of rural land in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Area. According to U.S. Bureau of the Census data, increased per capita land consumption was associated with about 55% of the sprawl in the Watershed and population growth was associated with about 45% of the sprawl, although there is great variation among the different Urbanized Areas of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. The Chesapeake Bay Watershed is home to more than 3,000 species of plants and animals, and nearly 15 million people today. The restoration and long-term protection of the Bay depends on halting the urban sprawl that is threatening the biodiversity and water quality of the area.

Demographics of Slovakia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
The majority of the 5.3 million inhabitants of Slovakia are Slovak Hungarians are the largest ethnic minority (9.7%) and are concentrated in the southern and eastern regions of Slovakia. Other ethnic groups include Roma Czechs Rusyns Ukrainians ... Germans , and Poles While both international organisations (the United Nations, the World Bank etc.) and the official Slovak statistics office offer population figures for ethnic groups, these figures seldom come close to agreement. Figures for the Roma population (for a variety of reasons) vary between 1 and 10% of the population. In the most recent survey carried out by the Slovak Government's Roma Plenipotentiary, the figure for the percentage of Roma was arrived at through interview with municipality representatives and mayors, according to how many Roma they think live in their jurisdictions. The figure arrived at by this means was in the region of 300,000 (about 5.6 %).Note however that in the case of the 5.6%, the above percentages of Hungarians and Slovaks are lower accordingly.
The Slovak constitution guarantees freedom of religion . The majority of Slovak citizens (60.3%) practice Roman Catholicism ; the second-largest group consider themselves atheists (9.7%). About 8.4% are Protestants, and 4.1% are Orthodox. About 2,300

Are Owned Cats Causing an Overpopulation Crisis?
A National Pet Alliance Report
(c) 1994 Karen Johnson
Adapted from the Cat Fanciers' Almanac, October 1994
Consider 1000 owned cats vs. 1000 stray/feral cats.
  • Which group is having the most kittens?
  • Which group is sustaining itself by reproduction?
  • Which group is handled more by animal control and shelters?
7 year life span. 3 year life span. 500 will be female. 2 times per year. ... NPA survey
Food for thought:
If all stray and feral cats were caught and altered or killed, owned cats would have to produce an additional 22 litters per year per thousand cats to sustain zero population growth. This is twice the current rate. To balance out the cat population, it is necessary to either increase cat ownership or reduce kittens being born to strays and ferals, or both. Programs which address these solutions should be encouraged, i.e. elimination of limit laws, or Trap / Test / Vaccinate / Alter / Release programs (TTVAR).

Bank One Economic Outlook Center The Economic Outlook Center was established in 1985 as the economic forecasting unit of the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. It is founded upon the premise that individuals and corporations make better decisions if they are well-informed as to the likely course of business and economic events. Because most individuals and many corporations lack the financial and human resources to engage in sophisticated statistical modeling and computer-based planning, the Economic Outlook Center provides these forecasts as a public service. The Center became the Bank One Economic Outlook Center in 1997 in recognition of the support that Bank One Arizona has shown for both the Center and the W. P. Carey School of Business as a whole.

134. All 10 Million Europeans: Demographic Collapse.
Asserts that fear of population growth and ecological crisis may soon be replaced by fear of population collapse, since global forecasts include scenarios of decline, in Europe it seems unavoidable.
http://web.inter.nl.net/users/Paul.Treanor/nohumans.html
ALL 10 MILLION EUROPEANS
The last two generations grew up with the idea of the "population explosion". For a century the world has lived with constant upward revision of population forecasts: the only question was if the growth would be fast, or very fast. And the last generation faced the question: how many billions can this planet support? So it is a culture shock, when new projections of global population include scenarios of dramatic population decline - without any meteorite impacts, new epidemics, or famines. Or when a UN report suggests that Europe needs 700 million immigrants to maintain its age structure... Is the future population nightmare not rural Bangladesh, but rural Estonia? Updated May 2005. The myth of population growth was strong until recently. A few years ago, the website of the Latvian centre for demography research included this image of the population boom, a 1997 painting by A. Bauskenieks called Demographic Explosion. But the image is the opposite of the truth: the population of Latvia is falling - month after month, year after year, as the tables at Latvian Statistics show. Population fell from 2 529 000 at the start of 1995, to 2 308 000 at the end of 2004 - more than 10% under the 1990 peak. Latvia joined the EU in 2004 with the highest death rate, and largest natural population loss, of all member states. Apparently, the Demographic Centre has realised the painting is inappropriate: it has been moved or deleted from the website. Latvia now needs research and policy for a demographic collapse, not for a population explosion.

Last year on October 12th 1999, the human population of Earth reached 6 billion. In my lifetime the population has doubled from 3 billion in 1959 to the 6,034,213,000 today. This doubling of population which occured over the last 40 years will never come close to happening again. The exponential growth of human population peaked in 1987. That year 87.01 million more people were added to the Earth. Since 1987, the population has declined on average by 2.1 million less people added per year. In this year of 2000 the population will increase by 60.1 million people. If we maintain this 13 year average of 2.1 million less people added per year, we will peak in population reaching zero population growth in 2029 with 6.90 billion people.
