Substantial hidden costs imposed on the private sector
by federal, state, and local government regulations By Michael Hodges - email
updated Sept. 2005
- a chapter of the Grandfather Economic Reports Government is costing us more than the taxes we see,
because it's difficult to see the extra cost of complying with government regulations. Complying with government regulations consumes $1.4 Trillion
- 14.9% of the economy - $4,680 per man, woman and child - - adding this regulation cost to $13,568 government spending per person
equates to $18,248 per person of government impact - AND - compliance costs small business more per employee than big business - AND - this does not count compliance cost impacts of the Patriot Act and Sarbanes-Oxley regulations - federal expenditures on regulatory activity increased 2.7 times faster than economic growth since 1960 -
- at 14% per year compounded -
Government mandated regulatory compliance costs are huge economics of our young generation at incalculable risk (Nobel Laureate Dr. Milton Friedman

Voting - Do Christians have an obligation to vote? Answer Separation of Church and State - When did the government pass this law and where can it be found? Answer Where should Christians draw the line in trying to make the U.S. a Christian nation? Answer
There is a line a nation crosses in violating the free exercise of religion, as well as the freedom of conscience. In America, this "line" has shifted over the years. Where is it now? Should Christians seek political power or should we only focus on evangelism? Answer
In the often shady world of politics, it is usually the last place a Christian wants to be. But should Christians really be focused on seeking political office? Here are some thought-provoking reasons why Christ's ambassadors should not shy away from being the public's ambassadors in government.

This is not correct. The Illuminati did go into hiding after their discovery and penetrated the Masonic Order in Europe but they had not infiltrated the Masons at the founding of this country. As the designated Area Agency on Aging for the five-county region, our responsibilities include: planning, initiating and implementing programs and services for older adults in Bladen, Hoke, Richmond, Robeson, and Scotland Counties. Under the Older Americans Act, we work as an advocate for older adults at the local, state and federal level. Training and technical assistance are also provided to agencies and organizations that serve older adults. Home and Community Care Lumber River Council of Governments also serves as the lead agency for the Home and Community Care Block Grant for two of its five counties. Services are provided for persons who are 60 years of age or older; there are no income eligibility guidelines. Ombudsman Program The Area Agency on Aging also administers a regional long-term care ombudsman program. The ombudsman serves as an advocate for residents in nursing and adult care homes in the region. The program has established positive working relationships with facilities while including in-service training at facilities, meeting with the administrator and /or families and regular informal visits. There are 9 County Commissioner appointed Community Advisory Committees in the region. Bladen, Richmond, Robeson and Scotland Counties have both a Nursing Home and an Adult Care Home Advisory Committee. Due to the small number of facilities in Hoke County, there is only one joint Committee.

    (updated December 2004)
    by Michael Hodges email
    - a chapter of the Grandfather Economic Reports Federal Government Debt ending fiscal year 2004 was $7.4 trillion and climbing;
    by the end of calendar year 2004 it reached $7.6 trillion. That's about $600 Billion higher than last year. In the 1990s $2.8 trillion of new debt was created;
    more than created in the nation's entire history prior to 1990
    In the 4 years 1997-2001 total federal debt increased $438 billion,
    a period when politicians bragged about a $557 billion surplus.
    That's a $1 Trillion creditability gap
    (Some might suggest Enron and others learned reporting gimmickry from government practices) An additional $1.6 trillion of debt was added in 2002-2004 - dramatic pictures below tell the story -
    I am very concerned about the debt being passed to our younger generation. Who isn't?
    The Grandfather Economic Report (http://mwhodges.home.att.net/) is a series of picture reports showing threats to the economic future of families and their children, compared to prior generations. You are now at the chapter on Federal Government Debt trends. Welcome. We hope your visit will find useful information to help you and your loved ones. This report is about the increased dependence of federal government debt , impacting families and the young, presented in an easy-to-understand format with 9 pictures.

    Japan
    Japanese government addicted to tobacco

    By Ranjit Dev Raj
    KOBE, Japan - Inside the packed conference halls of the posh Portopia Hotel, delegates from 200 countries discuss the growing menace of tobacco. But in the carpeted corridors outside, sleek vending machines dispense well-known brands of cigarettes.
    Nothing could have been more graphic of Japan's schizophrenic attitude to the control of tobacco - how to keep tobacco revenues rolling in but also respond to growing international scrutiny of its public health policy.
    The World Health Organization (WHO) which is organizing the four- day Conference on Tobacco and Health ending Thursday, say that what Japan does in the immediate future will have a tremendous bearing on the health of millions in the developing world.
    Realizing that Japan's tobacco policy is in the international spotlight and that it has the highest rate of smokers in the industrialized world, the Health and Welfare Ministry recently proposed to halve the number of smokers by 2010.
    On the other hand, Japan Tobacco, in which the powerful Finance Ministry has controlling interests, happens to be the world's largest tobacco company thanks to recent acquisitions from R J Reynolds Nabisco.
