Important Week for World Bank Whistleblower Rights
Congress returns this week to take up the Development Bank Reform and Reauthorization Act, S. 1129, introduced and unanimously approved on July 26 by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee after more than a year of field investigations, hearings and public roundtable forums. In addition, the FY 2006 omnibus appropriations law that soon goes to conference contains an amendment that Committee Chairman Richard Lugar (R.-IN) teamed up with Senator Patrick Leahy (D.-NH) to secure Senate passage of a similar reform package (S. A. 1293 passed on July 20). Click here to read more about this development!
Hanford Pipefitters Victorious in Trial
Earlier today, the trial in the case of 11 Hanford pipefitter whistleblowers, represented by Seattle attorney Jack Sheridan and the Government Accountability Project (GAP), came to a close. All eleven pipefitters were victorious, as Fluor Federal Services, a Department of Energy Contractor at the Hanford site, was found liable for damages totaling $4,760,000.

GPP works to encourage the government to use its immense purchasing power to promote safe, cost-effective, energy-efficient, and environmentally-sound products. The government is the largest consumer in the United States, representing 20 percent of the gross national product. This purchasing leverage can be an enormously effective tool which can save taxpayers money, set the standard for private industries, expand the marketplace for "green" technologies, and consequently make these technologies and environmentally preferable products more available to consumers as a whole. The Bank has identified corruption as the single greatest obstacle to economic and social development. It undermines development by distorting the rule of law and weakening the institutional foundation on which economic growth depends. The harmful effects of corruption are especially severe on the poor, who are hardest hit by economic decline, are most reliant on the provision of public services, and are least capable of paying the extra costs associated with bribery, fraud, and the misappropriation of economic privileges.
Corruption sabotages policies and programs that aim to reduce poverty, so attacking corruption is critical to the achievement of the Bank's overarching mission of poverty reduction. We believe that an effective anticorruption strategy builds on five key elements: Increasing Political Accountability
Strengthening Civil Society Participation

Creating a Competitive Private Sector

Institutional Restraints on Power
...
Improving Public Sector Management
To reduce the corrosive impact of corruption in a sustainable way, it is important to go beyond the symptoms to tackle the causes of corruption. Since 1996, the World Bank has supported more than 600 anticorruption programs and governance initiatives developed by its member countries.

Forward: from the Memorial Institute for Prevention of Terrorism Notes on the Bibliography Format View the Bibliography Sections This bibliography is intended to serve as a means of access to the copious and wide-ranging gamut of information produced by the United States Government concerning the complex web of relations enmeshing the United States, the Greater Middle East (the Middle East, north and east Africa, and central Asia) and the terrorist threat to U.S. persons and interests that has emerged from that region in recent decades. Initially intended to point researchers to materials specifically concerning the events of 11 September 2001, the bibliography has grown to over 700 pages of entries representing a range of materials that, while spread across several decades and across large geographical regions, cannot be divorced from the phenomenon of terrorist acts committed against the U.S. ( continued [All reports are in the Adobe PDF format , and open in a new window. Nonprofit tax deductible organization devoted to correcting corruption in government through educating the public and investigative work.
http://www.ombudsmen.org/
This site relates to the IRS tax deductible organization that distributes information to the public on misconduct in government offices and covert operations.. Most of the information made available comes from government agents seeking to expose misconduct, some of it criminal and even subversive. Included in misconduct is that in several government agencies that created conditions that insured the success of the September 11 terrorists. There is no other known IRS (C)(3) organization that uses the information from courageous government personnel to circumvent the widespread cover-ups on matters that continue to inflict great harm upon the American people. By transferring to Ombudsmen To Promote Government Integrity, the vital work of this organization can be greatly improved. The answer is to make this information known to as many people as possible. All donations are used solely to fund informational ads in mainstream publications and to petition government to act on these matters. Donations, which are tax deductible, can be anything of value, including vehicles, airplanes, real estate, and money.
