Christopher Capozzola is Assistant Professor of History, specializing in modern American history. He teaches courses on political and legal history, cultural history, and the history of race, gender, and class, including 21H.225J/SP.607J, "Gender and the Law in U.S. History." His research interests are in the history of war and politics in everyday life, and he is currently completing work on a book tentatively titled Uncle Sam Wants You: The Social Contract in America's First World War. Research for that book included a summer as a scholar-in-residence at the women's history archives at Smith College. His publications in women's history and gender studies have examined topics such as American women in World War I, the gender politics of American imperialism, the political beliefs of women who opposed women's suffrage, and the emergence of female candidates for public office. They have appeared in publications such as the Journal of American History, Journal of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and The Progressive.
