Den of the Demi-Diva
Are you always looking at the back of someone's head in a movie theater? Do you roll up sleeves on almost every shirt you buy? Do "Capri" pants mean normal length for you? Does it seem as if everything you want is on the top shelf of the grocery store? You aren't just short, you're a Demi-Divaand you've found your place on the Web for trading stories, sharing tips and bonding with other petites. If you'd like to share a story or tip click on our Contact link and send a message of a paragraph or two. We also hope to have a message board up soon. Welcome! Your hostesses,
Lynn Voedisch and Joanne Eglash
(both 5-foot-2) The Ms. Shorty Web site isn't just a place to log complaints (although we are sure there are many). It's a place to share solutions, to suggest ways to circumvent the (tall) barricades in our path, and to make our voices heard. Although you wouldn't be able to tell from reading most magazine or newspaper stories, but we are hardly a minority. In the United States alone, the average height of women is five-footfour. There are as many as foty-five million American women who are shorter than average and they have $8 billion in spending power, according the the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services. That means there are an awful lot of females out there struggling to get into SUVs, drowning in "one-size-fits-all" t-shirts, and dangling their feet while sitting in oversized sofas. It's hard to be a diva when the only shoes you can wear come from the children's department. But, have faith. We Demi-Divas know that there's a solution to every problem. We shop the petite departments, ask stores to provide stepstools for those hard-to-reach shelves, and refuse to stay meek, even if we have to jump up and down to be seen.

Women in Ancient Egyptian Religion
In Old-New Kingdoms, Part I
By Marie Parsons
Religion was an integral part of life in ancient Egypt, for women as well as for men. Women of the household maintained ancestor cults and kept shrines in their homes dedicated to deities especially caring of women, such as the goddess Taweret , and the bandy-legged dwarf Bes . Both these divinities were involved in guarding the woman and child through the pregnancy and childbirth process.
Bes In addition to the domestic observances and household shrines, many women of the elite class also participated in religious life and temple service, from the Old Kingdom onwards. The husbands of these women were often among the highest officials in the land. Women also often held jobs or had careers outside the temple, and left to do their time of service in the temple. One woman who supervised a royal weaving studio wrote in a letter how she had to leave her job to serve her month of temple duty. Hundreds of non-royal women are known to have served as priests, or

Irrepressible Pagulayan Wins Second Major in All-Filipino U.S. Open Final
Alex Pagulayan ran undefeated through a 256-man field to win the 30th Annual U.S. Open 9-Ball Championships, which this year could well have been called "The Philippine Open" after placing three Filipinos in the top three spots.
"A win is a win is a win," an ebullient Pagulayan said after beating Jose Parica in an error-filled final, 11-6. Parica had knocked Francisco Bustamante out of the running in the losers'-bracket final, 11-10.
Pagulayan first beat Parica in the winners'-bracket final, 11-6, and then earned the $40,000 top prize by taking advantage of a Parica miss on the 4 in the 17th rack of the finals. It was a dream come true for the tiny Canadian-by-way-of-the-Philippines, and his second major title after winning the 2004 World Pool Championship.
"The only dream I have left is to grow another two inches - either taller or the other way, I don't care," the irrepressible Clown Prince of Pool joked.
It was a bittersweet win for a couple reasons. Parica failed again to take the title after reaching the semis of the U.S. Open several times, and the finals at least twice. And Pagulayan, perhaps the most talented player of his generation, said after the event that he has all but forsaken mainstream U.S. pool events for poker - both tournament play and online gaming.

http://63.175.194.25/words/women_working/women_working.shtml
Women are working because workers went on strike! Studies confirm that productivity is dropping as a result of the presence of women among the workforce Development of the concept of women’s work The movement to bring women out of the home to work started in a major way in the western world after the Industrial Revolution, which led to men’s migration to the cities, so women took their place in the countryside. When the unions emerged, owners of workplaces used women to counteract these unions. This – as researchers and historians will confirm – was the plan of Jewish elements, aimed at destroying society by destroying the family, in order to take control of society. Women’s work role increased further as a result of the major wars which led to the conscription of young men. It was also increased by the media which propagated the idea of women working, and promised freedom and a way out from the eras of intellectual stagnation and social backwardness during which women had been obedient servants running the affairs of the household with no status of their own. The emergence of women was also used for material gains, the fulfilment of base desires, prostitution and corruption. Dr. Saalih al-Assaaf says in his book

A quick reference archive of useful material on women in the workplace
Long-term effects to part-time hours Women who work part-time are less likely than their full-time counterparts to win promotions or supervise other workers, despite high levels of education and long job tenure, suggests a study released recently by Human Resources Development Canada and Statistics Canada. How does a woman get ahead at work today? A colleague recently said that I was very successful 'for a woman.' What a bunch of BS. I want to be successful on equal footing. How do I do this? How to explain to employers that you do not intend to have more kids You are under no obligation to bring up the issue of kids. Should the question arise, emphasize that you are prepared to make a long-term commitment to the job.
