A Timeline of Women's Legal History in the United States by Professor Cunnea This webpage contains a history of significant events for women in the United States regarding their experience with the law: using it, making it, practicing it as a profession, profiting or suffering from it. It ranges from 1619 to the present, covering jury rights, voting rights, marriage rights, the right of a woman to pass on the status of free or slave to her children, the right of a woman to control her own body, the right of a woman to choose her own profession particularly the profession of law or lawmaker. The version placed on this site in March, 1998, is based on a timeline specialized to show key events in the history of the Women's Law and Public Policy Fellowship at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. To see the current Georgetown version, click here Thanks are due to the Fellowship Program for making this project possible and enjoyable! The page is new and still evolving. Welcome to Women's History Month Australia
2005 Theme:
Celebrating Racy Women
Extraordinary Australian women come in all forms and in March this year we celebrated 'racy' Australia n women of times past. Willing to break from the tight social constraints of their times, our featured women were doing it their way, working hard, having fun, and being a little left-of-centre. Like this woman, dancing on arrival in Sydney on the Mariposa in 1937.
This year's Women's History Month Avant Card postcards featured five of these women, and were available in cafes, museums and galleries. If you missed the cards, photos and information on the featured women also appear on the website through the Racy Women page. As part of this year's 'Racy Women' theme, we are also featuring some little known information on women in racing: the trainers, owners, and jockeys who fought hard for women to be accepted in this industry. Just click on the links below for more information on the Racy Women theme and the history of WHM.
The Theme for 2006 is:
Women in Music
Women in Music is about women making, creating and teaching music.

WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH 2005
October 2005
Women and War: Contributions and Consequences
Did you know that October is Women's History Month (WHM) in Canada? Established in 1992 by the Government of Canada, this special month provides an opportunity to learn more about women's historic accomplishments and their contributions to Canadian society. THEME Women and War: Contributions and Consequences This year marks the 60 th Anniversary of V-E and V-J Day, the end of World War II. As part of this commemoration, the Government of Canada has declared 2005 the Year of the Veteran Throughout history, the women of Canada have made countless contributions to both the war effort and the peace movement. Knowing all too well the consequences of war, women have made great strides in providing a voice for victims - the majority of whom are often women and children. This year's Women's History Month theme examines the role of women in Canada, in times of war, conflict and peace-making: as they strive for recognition as contributing members of Canadian society; as they work toward peaceful solutions to conflict; and as they struggle to become world leaders in advancing human rights.

Dear Members,
In the past days we have been shocked and touched by the devastation which has occurred in Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi. "We are family" has become the American way, both globally and nationally. It is time for us to become a part of a national effort to spearhead a campaign to alleviate the suffering of the men, women and children who have been stricken and displaced. The Pen Woman Task Force asks that we work together in our state associations and branches to do all we can. The hands-on plans we have are for the future, but we ask, at this time, that you contact organizations in your region to learn what you can do to help. We know we can depend on you to reach and assist in every way you can. Sincerely

About Legacy '98:
1998 was the 150th Anniversary of the Women's Rights Movement , launched at the world's first Women's Rights Convention in Seneca Falls, New York. Throughout 1998, the tremendous positive changes brought about by the movement were celebrated in offices, schools, and communities nationwide in thousands of events. Because of countless millions of women who planned, organized, lectured, wrote, marched, petitioned, lobbied, paraded, and broke new ground in every field imaginable, our world is irrevocably changed. Women and men in our generation, and the ones that will follow us, are living the legacy of women's rights won against staggering odds in a revolution achieved without violence. Women have much to be proud of in the legacy of the Women's Rights Movement, and a great deal to celebrate on the anniversary of the founding of the Women's Rights Movement.
