105. Wild Wolf Women Of The Web
to the Hebrew version of Women Who Run With the wolves . She quotes DesertWind Wolf, who speaks of her connection with the wild Wolf Women of the Web.
http://www.wildwolfwomen.com/
"Within every woman there is a wild and natural creature, a powerful force, filled with good instincts, passionate creativity, and ageless knowing. Her name is Wild Woman, but she is an endangered species. Though the gifts of the wildish nature come to us at birth, society's attempt to "civilize" us into rigid roles has plundered this treasure, and muffled the deep, life-giving messages of our own souls. Without Wild Woman, we become over-domesticated, fearful, uncreative, trapped." The preceding quotes are from the foreward and introduction of Women Who Run with the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Ph.D. This book is the inspiration for this website, and our email list, Wild Wolf Women of the Web. We are a group of women from around the world, that come together to sing over the bones of our life stories.
Here, we have found our packmates, and ourselves. Here, we nourish the creative life and mark our self protective boundaries. Here, we howl. A woman told me that she found on the internet a group of women who met regularly to talk about the themes of the book Women Who Run With The Wolves . Women from all over the world share between them their thoughts, emotions, pain, and their strength. They cross the boundaries of language, religion, culture, and race because of the common base that they are women, wild women.

As to how wolves became dogs, the current understanding seems to be they tamed themselvesin a Survival of the Friendliest . Here's more on animal linguistics . As for cats, well, Stephen Budiansky in The Character of Cats suggests they aren't even really tame . Hence, unlike dogs, cats haven't bothered to pick up our languagethey've taught us Cat talk instead. Take the test and see. NORWAY'S WOLVES: With so few people and so much space, why did Norway kill its last breeding wolf pack last year? Monday 8 July 2002 9.00pm
Wonderful, wild, mountainous Norway is ideal wolf habitat. In the past it was home to thousands of wolves, but today there are just thirteen. The Grey Wolf Last year, a government-organized cull from helicopters removed a whole pack of eight animals, leaving no intact breeding families in the whole country and going against the government's own policy. In the first programme of this new series, Lionel Kelleway travels to Norway to find out why. In the late 19th-century, wolves were eradicated in Norway as a pest species. In the 1980s, when a pair that had made its way from Finland began to breed in southern Norway, sheep farmers were already contending with bears, lynx and wolverine eating their sheep. Wolves were the final straw. Hunters, too, protested loudly against the growing wolf population. Wolves ate their dogs and ate the moose they loved to hunt. Lionel Kelleway (right) is shown a moose killed by a wolf Both hunting and farming lobbies are powerful in Norway, so wolves are a political hot potato and feelings run high. But by talking to scientists, hunters and sheep farmers, and by confronting the Minister responsible for wolf policy in Norway, Lionel gets a fascinating insight into the very real struggles and concerns that lie behind the headline-grabbing debate. And, as wolves increase in number and range right across Europe, this is a debate that more and more countries will have to face up to.

About this artwork: I originally was never going to do a wolf painting because the market was so saturated with them. Then someone asked me to do one for a documentary on wolves, so I did. However, the documentary never happened, so I still have the piece. There it is. Oh well, it's still an inspiring piece of work, in my opinion. Item Price Quantity Original 16x20 acrylic painting

Wild Wolves Benefit from Blizzard in Xinjiang
Wild wolves seem to be the only group benefiting from the blizzards in the northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the largest snow storms in the past five decades.
The extremely heavy snowfall in the autonomous region resulted in a great demand for fodder. Figures from the local Red Cross Society in February showed that over 120,000 heads of livestock died of exposure and starvation and over 17 million heads were endangered in the blizzard-hit areas.
While hungry sheep have become the dinner of the wild wolves there. By now, 1,500 sheep in the Altay prefecture have been either eaten or attacked and killed by the wolves. Also, antelope under national protection in Kalamaili Mountain Nature Preserve has also become their prey. The animal, the "short- distance race champion" in the wildlife world, was not able to escape from the wolves this time due to starvation and 50 mm-deep snow covering the land. To ensure the safety of the local citizens and livestock, the local government has organized teams to kill the wolves and to dispel those wandering in the pasturing areas.

Bud Fazio , Team Leader, Red Wolf Recovery Program 252-473-1131 x 240 The is pleased to announce two major successes in the Red Wolf Recovery Program : the best spring ever recorded for endangered red wolf pups in North Carolina and a second red wolf pup fostering event. Red Wolf Recovery Program biologists found a record 55 red wolf pups in 11 litters and added two more puppies to the count through the fostering program. A pair of female red wolf pups was recently transferred from a captive facility on Bulls Island at Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge near Charleston, South Carolina, to join the wild red wolf population in northeastern North Carolina. Just two weeks old, the sister pups were selected for their rare genes and placed in separate dens with wild red wolf pups of identical age. The captive-born sisters were adopted by wild foster mothers and will likely be raised within their respective packs. "This technique is effective when the fostered pups live long enough to contribute their genes to the wild population by producing pups of their own," explains Art Beyer, Field Coordinator for the Red Wolf Recovery Program.
