Wisconsin Educational Information and Technology Plan PK-12
This publication, the result of research and planning by a diverse task force of Wisconsin education stakeholders, is not about wire, cable and computers, but focuses instead on students, teachers, and learning institutions. The desired outcome of this plan is to strengthen teaching and learning using technology, and for the use of technology to become seamless and institutionalized. For this to happen, PK-20 teamwork and collaboration must occur on an ongoing basis. A vital part of this teamwork is not only the involvement of the community in general, but increased efforts to include parents in all aspects of the educational process. Wisconsin school strong-armed into re-admitting ROTC
From the Madison Capital Times : "The chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Stout has reversed his ban on Army reserve officer training on campus, after discovering that the university could lose federal funding as a result. Charles Sorensen, head of the UW campus in Menomonie, sent a memo to campus staff today explaining his change of heart. His prior position was based on the military's policy of banning openly homosexual people, which the chancellor said violated the university's policy of inclusion and tolerance. "After contact from UW System's general counsel, it became clear to me that campus attempts to prohibit an ROTC chapter may be a violation of regent policy and federal law," [Sorenson wrote]. "In reading the law it appears that barring ROTC could place significant amounts of federal funding for us at risk." ... The chancellor also denied that he had yielded to political pressure in changing his position, despite the fact that three members of the state Legislature which is now considering the UW budget objected strongly to the decision. Republican Sens. Ron Brown and Dave Zien of Eau Claire and Sheila Harsdorf of River Falls wrote a letter to Sorensen stating that the way to deal with political objections is through the political process." Note: The federal law refered to in the article is the Solomon Amendment , and it withholds federal funds from colleges and universities that ban military recruiting on campus. The Supreme Court is

Home Background Information WebGrant 2003: Streaming Media WebGrant Abstract
The Streaming Media WebGrant was the tenth annual WebGrant program offered to faculty and instructional staff at the University of Wisconsin-Madison by the Division of Information Technology (DoIT). It was offered to campus in the spring of 2003. The mission of the DoIT WebGrant program is to provide small annual grants focused on a current issue or topic to transform teaching and learning with technology by disseminating widely the selected new tools and technologies, which are chosen because they can be easily adopted and supported. Additionally, WebGrants help make it possible for UW faculty to employ learning technology in a supportive environment that recognizes the demands on faculty time and minimizes the impact on that time so that faculty can dedicate quality time to their traditional disciplinary activities and responsibilities. The target audience for this particular grant program was majority faculty, as defined by Hagner (2001) and Rogers (1983).

    CLIPBOARD
Vol.8 No.2 Summer 1994 It's March 16, 1994 and as the plane circles to land at the Los Angeles airport, I can see the extensive damage done by the recent earthquake. When we touch down, the pilot, after the usual announcements welcoming us to Los Angeles, says Live Long and Prosper! Whether he is referring to the earthquake or just trying to be humorous is unclear. No one pays any attention. Did the reference to Star Trek elude everyone or did they just not care? In April, 1994, President Bill Clinton signed into law The Goals 2000: Educate America Act. This bill details what USA school children ought to be taught and tested on in certain subjects. States will get federal money - $400 million - to develop performance and content standards, along with local governments and school districts. The bill encourages voluntary "content standards" in nine core subjects, English, mathematics, history, science, foreign language, civics, economics, arts and geography. The standards for Arts will include Media Literacy at all primary and secondary levels and so Goals 2000 becomes an important element in discussions on Media Literacy across the USA. California plans to introduce new legislation on media literacy in their war against television violence. Hawaii sees media literacy as something to help prevent racism. North Carolina, Florida, and New Mexico are other states which have educational legislation promoting media literacy.
