The Friends of Wisconsin Libraries was founded in 1963 and is a group of Wisconsin citizens who believe it is essential that the public recognize the importance of libraries and library systems as irreplaceable, dynamic, and educational forces for the benefit of all. We work with library agencies, trustees, and staff members; we are a permanent source of information; we help local groups improve the quality, scope, and special services of their community library. Introduction TEACH Wisconsin's innovative, four-pronged approach provides access to information technologies and advances improved student learning and teacher instruction. The four main programs are:
    • Noncompetitive Block Grants for educational technology to public school districts, charter schools, and secured juvenile correctional facilities.
    • Telecommunications Access for data, voice, and video distance education connections.
    • Competitive Grants for teacher training and technical assistance to cooperative educational service agencies (CESAs) or to collaborations of CESAs, public school districts, and/or public libraries.
    • Infrastructure Financial Assistance to schools and libraries for the upgrade of computer network and electrical wiring.
Listed below are the individual programs which are currently being offered by TEACH Wisconsin.

    26. Feedback Regarding TEACH Programs
Wisconsin to public libraries that do not have access to the Internet. Approximately 65 wisconsin libraries that currently have no or lowspeed Internet
    http://www.teachwi.state.wi.us/feedback.html
Comments TEACH Wisconsin has received comments from many teachers, librarians, administrators, and technical support people throughout the state. Here is what the educational community is saying about TEACH and the programs it supports: On the REACH Grant -$500,000 in grants from TEACH Wisconsin to public libraries that do not have access to the Internet. Approximately 65 Wisconsin libraries that currently have no or low-speed Internet access are expected to participate in the grant program called "REACH." The primary roadblock that more than 30 percent of Wisconsin libraries face in obtaining Internet access is the lack of funds to pay for their start up equipment costs and wiring. TEACH Wisconsin is providing one-time grants up to $6,000 for these libraries so they can take advantage of the TEACH Data Line Program. The REACH Grant would allow us to have an enormous volume of shared online resources and data accessible to our patrons very quickly. -Lowell Public Library Our library will be able to offer a secure and efficient connection to the Internet. With this connection we will be able to participate in the shared automation system giving us access to materials and services we do not have now. -Shullsburg Public Library

Wisconsin Libraries Get Increase in Funding
American Libraries is reporting that South Carolina and Wisconsin Libraries Get Increased Funding . This is such great news for Wisconsin library systems and also for the libraries they serve. Especially in the tight economic times we are in, it is good to see libraries being valued and more importantly, funded! Posted by saecker on June 12, 2005 06:22 AM Permalink
