GENERAL PURPOSE
The collection development policy charts the scope of materials required to support curriculum needs and research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Department of Spanish and Portuguese and Latin American, Caribbean, and Iberian Studies Program. The core of this collection is housed in Memorial Library, with complementary collections in the agriculture, art, business, law, and music libraries. Collection development emphasis is on acquiring current printed materials (and out of print materials, when available) in support of the current instructional research and needs of the faculty and students. The library system exhibits special subject strengths in anthropology, economics, history, and Spanish literature.

FAQs for Transfer Specialists
Western Wisconsin Technical College general education courses
Do you accept credits from Western Wisconsin Technical College as general education credits? If so, which courses do you accept?
Augsburg College:
Augsburg also accepts Western Wisconsin Tech credits. In my experience, Wisconsin's "technical" colleges are more what we would call "community and technical" colleges.
Century College:
At Century we accept credits from WWTC as similar to Winona and UND. We accept general education credits.
Hibbing CC:
Hibbing Community College accepts WWTC general education credits because it is NCA accredited.
North Dakota State University:
NDSU accepts all credits from WWTC. If the course is equivalent to a general education course here, we let it count for gen ed as well.
North Hennepin CC:

We do NOT accept credits from Western Wisconsin Technical College as general education credits. Northwestern College: Northwestern College (NWC) accepts credits from WWTC for college level courses in which the student earns a C- or better. Courses are transferred on an individual basis and are evaluated to determine how they apply to the student's major. Credits will most likely be applied in the general education area or as electives (if needed by major). If student wants the credits to be applied to their major, we have the dept chair review the course syllabus. Students are advised to check with the Admissions Office before they register for courses to find out if/how the credits will transfer to NWC.

    Funding Special Education Needs
Jon Peacock and Debby Meyer Executive Summary
    • Wisconsin statutes call for state reimbursement of 63% of "aidable" special education costs from a categorical aid appropriation; yet the actual reimbursement rate has fallen far below that standard and is expected to be about 34% this year. The gap between the 63% standard in the statutes and the actual reimbursement level amounted to $223.5 million in 1997-98. The special education appropriation has declined from 13.3% of state school aid in 1989-90 to 6.9% this year, and it would drop to 6.3% in FY 2000-01 under the proposed budget.

Although categorical aid for special education does not count against a district’s revenue growth limits, that exemption provides no relief to the vast majority of districts as long as the categorical appropriation remains frozen at its current level. The Audit Bureau report concluded that, "if special education costs had increased at the same rate as regular education from FY 1992-93 through FY 1997-98, $59.9 million more would have been available in FY 1997-98 to fund regular education."
