Delivered to the Parliament of the World's Religions on Friday, September 3, 1993 on behalf of Covenant of the Goddess.
WICCAN DEVOTIONALS
This lecture is concerned with some aspects of the Wiccan relationship to divinity and to history, and the relationship of Wiccans and scholastic endeavor. By Wicca or Witchcraft I mean a particular sect of the religion of Paganism. By Pagan I mean that modern religion which derives from European folk religion and Hellenistic religion, as well as any other sources which practicing Pagans identify as informing the religion. Paganism hasn't been popular as a Western religion for the better part of 2,000 years. As a result, Pagan religionists today are in a situation which has numerous parallels with other suppressed religions. In this century, Pagan religious practice has been secret, covert and in the home, with no open Pagan communities to provide cultural or emotional support. In the last few decades hidden Witches and secret Pagans have emerged in semi-public gatherings, and have struggled to create community, to compile histories, and to gain recognition as a religion. I use the term "Re-Paganization" to describe this process. Wicca (and the religion of Paganism in general) is polytheistic, as mutually exclusive understandings of divinity can co-exist in the religion, with each considered to be equally valid. There is a huge tolerance for diversity, for temporary conflict, for individual expression of belief.

Introduction
by Gwyneth Cathyl-Harrow The Counseling Workshop, and these notes, are intended for use by initiated Witches, or those who studying towards initiation and who are working with the guidance of an Elder. They are not intended to substitute for appropriate training in pastoral counseling, whether through formal academic studies or apprenticeship. It takes more than a weekend to learn to be a counselor; but even in the short time available, we can work on acquiring some of the counseling 'survival skills' needed by a working Priest/ess. Nevertheless, we should bear in mind our limits: we cannot help everyone who comes to us. Some people need help from psychologists, surgeons or other clinicians pastoral counseling is for them at best an adjunct to the help they really need, and at worst it may do them harm. Opinions expressed within these notes are solely those of the authors, and must not be construed as being the opinions, practices or precepts of any Tradition or organisation. We do not seek to identify the religious affiliation of any of the authors, other than to note that they belong to various faith groups. May these words and the manner of their sharing bring good to many and harm to none.

I hope your stay is a pleasant one. Maybe we can learn a bit from one another, or maybe not, but whatever the destination we'll have fun along the way! What's New? Posted 7/14/03: Oak's Book Review: Pentalia For twelve year old Alexandra Elizabeth Bosk and her little brother Michael, it started as just another ordinary day, at least until they found themselves running to escape a mysterious blue fog and falling into a hidden cave - and the strange, magical world of Pentalia, a fantasy novel by Amanda Evans and illustrated by Susan Tate. Rated on a scale of, say, one to Harry Potter, I have to give this book a.. well, I've never read Harry Potter so I don't know what to rate it exactly. But I do think most children from beginning readers to those around the 6th grade level would enjoy this novel. Older or more advanced readers may find the writing style a bit juvenile, but will still probably enjoy the storyline. All in all, I have to recommend this book to both Pagan parents and to anyone else looking for ways to introduce their children to the exciting world of fantasy. www.pentalia.com.

Wiccan Paths
(Traditions)
Gardnerian Wicca
A retired British civil servant named Gerald B. Gardner is the 'Grandfather', at the very least, of almost all Neo-Wicca. He was initiated into a coven of Witches in the New Forest region of England in 1939 by a High Priestess named 'Old Dorothy' Clutterbuck. In 1949 he wrote a novel [*High Magic's Aid*] about medieval Witchcraft in which quite a bit of the Craft as practiced by that coven was used. In 1951 the last of the English laws against Witchcraft were repealed (primarily due to the pressure of Spiritualists) and Gardner published *Witchcraft Today*, which set forth a version of the rituals and traditions of that coven. There is an enormous amount of disagreement about virtually every statement I have made in this paragraph. Gardnerism is both a tradition and a family, and lineage is a family tree. The High Priestess rules the coven, and the principles of love and trust preside. We follow our handed down book more carefully than many others, but we are free to add and improvise, as long as we preserve the original. We work skyclad, practice binding and scourging, are hierarchal and secretive, therefore we are controversial. We're also controversial because we were first - the first craft tradition in the U. S. and descended from the man largely responsible for starting the craft revival. So, we're called 'the snobs of the craft', but I think we're as much fun as anyone else; our parties as good, our jokes as bad'

    ACLU backs Wiccan suit
    By Dionne Walker
    ASSOCIATED PRESS
    August 10, 2005
The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals sided with the suburban Richmond county.
"Although Establishment Clause jurisprudence may be beset with conflicting tests, uncertain outcomes and ongoing debate, one principle has never been compromised ... that one religious denomination cannot be officially preferred over another," ACLU attorneys wrote in their 13-page filing.
County officials said they had the right to limit the prayers to Judeo-Christian beliefs and religions based on a single god.
Though many variations exist, the Wiccan faith is a generally a multi-deity religion with strong focus on Earth and seasonal cycles, also defined as a form of witchcraft.
Chesterfield County Attorney Steven Micas was out of the office and not available for comment yesterday.
