  • Located on the Lower Level Contains about 78,000 sheet maps stored in flat cases Most maps can be circulated for two weeks Most are received through the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) and are produced by three federal agencies: the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the National Ocean Service (NOS), and the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA) The collection includes political maps of foreign countries from the Central Intelligence Agency and a small collection of commercially published map sheets which the Library purchases WVU has 53,700 map sheets in a series of 7.5 minute scale topographic maps for the entire United States Maps that are not in the collection can be requested through Interlibrary Loan Should you have any questions regarding the Map Collection, please contact:

The West Virginia and Regional History Collection has an extensive and varied materials available for genealogical research. Included in this collection are prepared genealogies (both published and unpublished), census records, public records, military records, photographs, and manuscript materials. Please see Guide to Genealogical Research for a list of some of our major genealogy collections. You should also search our online Catalogs and Databases for information on your family. Beginning genealogists should read Getting Started in Genealogical Research and Using the West Virginia and Regional History Collection .
