Because of west virginia s geography, the majority of water available for fishingand boating comes in the form of streams, rivers and small impoundments

WILDLIFE
FISHING HUNTING NEWS ... HOME PAGE
Recreational Access for Physically Challenged Sportsmen
Fishing, hunting, and other wildlife associated recreational access areas for the state's physically challenged is a priority of the DNR. The DNR works with local and national advocacy organizations in modifying public use facilities and developing innovative programs that address the needs and concerns of the physically challenged. With the increase in funding from the Conservation Stamp Program, the DNR has increased the accessibility of its facilities and improved recreational opportunities for the physically challenged. Since 1989, the DNR has constructed 37 physically challenged angler access sites in 26 counties throughout the state. The Monongahela National Forest, in cooperation with DNR, has recently opened 9 trails for physically challenged hunters.
Developing wildlife associated recreational access areas for the physically challenged is supported by all hunters and anglers. With monies received from the Conservation Stamp Program, the DNR will be able to continue its dedication to expanding recreational opportunities in areas of need. Plans are already in place to develop an additional 20 angler access sites and open an additional 20 trails on WMAs for the use and enjoyment of the state's physically challenged hunters and anglers. Most shooting ranges have been modified to address the needs of the physically challenged.
Small Impoundments
The constant demand for "close to home" fishery resources makes small impoundments especially important to West Virginia's Fish Management program. With the passage of the Conservation Stamp legislation, the DNR has dramatically increased the amount of small impoundment acreage open for public use. Working with the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Division of Environmental Resources Stream Mitigation Program, and local counties and cities, the DNR has been able to open 14 new impoundments, providing anglers with an additional 872 acres of water for recreational use. Small impoundments are intensely used and receive more fishing use per acre than any other type of water in the state.

2005/2006. Fundedby the National Science Foundation, this collaborative
project on "Spatial Inference and Prediction with
BiogeographicalData"will focus on an extensive comparison of methods
used in predictive habitat distribution models.
The primary purpose of this research is to develop a framework to guide
the operational use of the many different statistical methods and types
of data currently used in predictive habitat modeling. We will focus on
the general question of : what are the best methods for spatial prediction of species habitat given the characteristics of the species and environmental data available for modeling? Of particular interest are incorporating spatial dependence in models and developing spatially explicit accuracy measures. Comparative modeling experiments will be executed using existingspecies distribution and abundance data spanning the three major ecoregionsin southern California (desert, mountain, coastal), for three taxonomic

West Virginia Library Commission 2003-2007 Library Services and Technology Act Five Year Plan Mission The mission of the West Virginia Library Commission is to promote, assist, and support the development of effective and efficient library services that ensure all residents of the state access to the highest quality library services and information resources to meet their needs. The West Virginia Library Commission is mandated by law to give assistance, advice and council to all libraries in the state and to all communities that propose to establish libraries. Overview In recent years, the West Virginia Library Commission has assessed the needs of West Virginia libraries through several projects. These include a study by Himmel and Wilson Library Consultants, the development, implementation and evaluation of the 1998-2002 LSTA program, the development of the West Virginia Library Commission strategic plan, and most recently, by a series of public meetings and informal discussions for the development of the 2003-2007 LSTA plan. These processes produced the following observations concerning the needs of residents of West Virginia and how library services consistent with the purposes of the Library Services and Technology Act can address those needs.

Students Compete for State Geography Championship Posted: April 02nd, 2002
One hundred one students in grades four through eight will compete Friday, April 5, to become West Virginia’s State Geographic Bee champion and win a trip to the National Geographic Bee finals in Washington, D.C.
The West Virginia competitors earned their place by winning local Geography Bees and then earned a top score on a written exam prepared by the National Geographic Society. Geography Bees also will be held April 5 in the other 49 states, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories. The National Geographic Bee is May 21-22.
The State Geographic Bee will be held at the Charleston Civic Center. The preliminary rounds will be held at 10:00 a.m. with the final round beginning at 1:00 p.m. in West Virginia Rooms 104-105.
In Friday’s Geographic Bee, the State winner receives $100 and other prizes, along with an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D. C., with a teacher escort for the national finals. The national competitors will be vying for a $25,000 first-place college scholarship and lifetime subscription to National Geographic magazine; second and third place winners will receive $15,000 and $10,000 scholarships, respectively.
The National Geographic Society developed the National Geographic Bee in response to concern about the lack of geographic knowledge among young people in the United States. In a 10-country Gallup survey conducted for the Society in 1988 and 1989, Americans 18-24, the youngest group surveyed, scored lower than their counterparts in the other countries tested.

  • Locating Virginia Virginia is the state in which we live. It is in the southeast region of the United States. The United States is on the continent of North America Relative location is a term that means a point or place in relation to another point or place. It may be described using terms that show connections between two places such as “next to”, “near”, or “bordering”. Virginia is bordered by two bodies of water. The Atlantic Ocean is located to the east of the Eastern Shore Chesapeake Bay is between the Eastern Shore and the east coast of mainland Virginia. It goes as far north as Maryland. There are five states that border Virginia. Maryland (MD) is to the north and northeast. West Virginia (WV) is to the north and northwest. Kentucky (KY) is due west. Tennessee (TN) is southwest. North Carolina is directly south. Some people like to use mnemonic devices to help them remember the names of places. A mnemonic device is a sentence where the first letter of each word stands for one something. Here is an example to help you remember the names of the states that border Virginia.

The Allegheny Mountains are massively long and narrow mountains that sometimes run for a hundred miles or more! It turns out this was close but one ridge away.
This map (with the outline of the extreme western Maryland) shows the pertinent ridges as they were impacted by the September 11 crash.
The map is from the official 911 Commission Report. The mass just south south west is Negro Mountain/Mount Davis. Those into prominence could debate whether it is in fact part of Mount Davis. flight93crash.com appears to have backed off the argument and instead is favoring a conventional shootdown. The intial article and government cover up held appeal because I could see in the confusion following 911 I could understand why there might be a desire to create heros. Much like the Kennedy assassination conspiracies, the alternatives to the official story are pretty fantastic and in themselves have problems (some argue all the planes were taken out to sea and passengers killed and drones went sent to New York, Washington and Pennsylvania). Below is a map of Maryland showing the complete topography.
