CHAPTER 18. EDUCATION. ARTICLE 8. COMPULSORY SCHOOL ATTENDANCE. West Virginia Code §18-8-1. Commencement and termination of compulsory school attendance; exemptions. (a) Compulsory school attendance shall begin with the school year in which the sixth birthday is reached prior to the first day of September or upon enrolling in a publicly supported kindergarten program and continue to the sixteenth birthday. Exemption from the foregoing requirements of compulsory public school attendance shall be made on behalf of any child for the causes or conditions set forth in this section. Each cause or condition set forth in this section shall be subject to confirmation by the attendance authority of the county.

Registration/Licensing/Accreditation: Curriculum Recordkeeping/Reports: Length of School Year/Day: Instruction in English: Curriculum Special Education: Health: Safety: Transportation: Home Schooling: The person or persons providing the instruction shall annually obtain an academic assessment of the child for the previous school year. This can be satisfied by an approved standardized test; a written narrative indicating that a portfolio of samples of the child's work has been reviewed by a certified teacher or other person mutually agreed upon by the parent and the superintendent, and that the child's academic progress is in accordance with the child's abilities; or evidence of an alternative assessment of the child's proficiency mutually agreed upon by the parent and the superintendent. General 1.1. Scope. This rule sets the requirements for schools in West Virginia to be harassment and violence free. 1.2. Authority. W.Va. Constitution, Article XII, §2, and W.Va. Code §§18-2-5, 18-2-5a, and 18-2-7b. 1.3. Filing Date. December 16, 1996 1.4. Effective Date. January 16, 1997 1.5. Repeal of former rule. None §126-18-2. Purpose. 2.1. The purpose of these regulations is to prevent racial, sexual or religious/ethnic harassment or violence, toward students and staff, to protect the academic environment, and to assure that our educational institutions respond to harassment and/or violence incidents when they occur in a manner that effectively deters future incidents and affirms respect for individuals. These regulations require county boards to design and implement prevention and response programs, to outline investigatory and reporting procedures and to delineate penalties for violations of this policy. To the extent possible, county boards will collaborate with other state and local agencies in carrying out the purpose of this rule. Policy 2520.16 Alternate Academic Standards for WV Schools
Background: ESEA/NCLB requires that states adopt challenging alternate academic achievement standards that are linked to their grade-level academic content standards, promote access to the general curriculum and reflect professional judment of the highest achievement standards possible. The WV Alternate Assessment, currently under revision, must align with the state's alternate achievement standards. 2520.16 is a new policy that defines the alternate academic achievement standards for students with the most significant cognitive impairments as required by Policy 2510 and ESEA/NCLB.

West Virginia regulations specify that all Licensed Massage Therapists must keep their education current by completing a series a Continuing Education courses each year in order to continue their licensure. Every therapist must complete a minimum of 25 hours of Continuing Education courses during each licensure period (2 years). Of this 25 hours, at least 1 hour must be in professional ethics.
Six (6) CEU's can be carried over from the previous licensing period with one (1) included in the six (6) carried over in Ethics. Continuing education units "carried over" are the units that you had earned from the last period totaling over twenty-five (25).
The West Virginia Massage Therapy Licensure Board follow the same guidelines as the NCBTMB except as a 2 year license instead of the national 4 year. WV Designs

APPENDIX A:  RULES AND REGULATIONS
Institutions and individuals using human bodies for scientific study, as authorized by state statutes, are required thereby to comply with the Rules and Regulations prescribed by the West Virginia Anatomical Board. The West Virginia Anatomical Board shall meet at least annually to review its Rules and Regulations, elect its chairman, and make appointments. Advance public notice through the news media shall be given for all regularly scheduled meetings of the Board and for all special meetings except for an emergency requiring immediate official action.
  • All human bodies used by an authorized institution or individual for scientific study must be channeled through the West Virginia Anatomical Board prior to usage of the body or bodies. This may be carried out by direct correspondence and does not necessarily require that the body itself be delivered to the board. All bodies under the jurisdiction of the West Virginia Anatomical Board are to be numbered using a single numbering system administered by the Secretary of the board.
    All bodies donated for scientific or medical study at an authorized institution or by an authorized person (for example, not requisitioned by the board) require a properly signed and witnessed Donor Registration or Donation and Release Form. At the time of delivery of the body to such institution or person, a copy of the Death Certificate and Donor Card or Donation and Release Form shall be forwarded to the board.

Requires state board of education to develop a model policy to assist county boards. Requires policy to include definition, statement prohibiting harassment, intimidation or bullying, reporting procedures, notification of parents, procedures for response and investigation, process for documentation of incidents, strategy for protecting victims from further harassment or bullying after a report is made and a disciplinary procedure for students found guilty. Policy must be printed in student handbooks. Provides immunity against damages for good-faith reporting of incidents. Encourages, but does not require, bullying prevention programs and initiatives, teacher training and student education about the policy.

    State Regulations on Coaching Authorization The following Coaching Authorization Regulations (Title 126 Legislative Rule Series 136) were enacted in July 1997 by the West Virginia Board of Education. 23.1 Initial Authorizations and Renewal. 23.1.1. General Criteria - An authorization may be issued to a person who has completed: 1) the minimum degree specified in Appendix A through an accredited institution of higher education as defined in §126-136-4.2, if applicable; (not applicable to coaches) 2) the general requirements specified in §126-136-13.1: General Requirements - A license to work in the public schools of WV may be granted to an applicant who is 1) a United States citizen, 2) of good moral character, 3) physically, mentally, and emotionally qualified to perform the duties to which he/she is assigned, and 4) has attained the age of eighteen years on or before the first day of October of the year in which the license is issued (WV Code §18A-3-2a). 3) the minimum grade point average specified in §126-136-13.2, if applicable (not applicable to coaches); and
