DNR Reminds Churches of "Share the Harvest Sunday" November 3
The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources is reminding West Virginia churches that "Share the Harvest Sunday" will begin November 3, according to Ed Hamrick, Director of the Division of Natural Resources. "Sunday, November 3, has been designated as the day in 2002 when each individual member of participating churches will be asked to donate one dollar to Hunters Helping the Hungry," said Hamrick. "Actually, any Sunday your church has open for such a request may be designated as your own ‘Share the Harvest Sunday’." Any church, business or individual wishing to support this tax-deductible charity should make their checks out to "Hunters Helping the Hungry" and mail them to Marshall Snedegar, Division of Natural Resources, Building 3, Room 825, State Capital, Charleston, WV 25305. TWO WEST VIRGINIA CHURCHES MARK HISTORIC MERGER CHARLESTON, W. Va., (November 19, 2004) The merger of two congregations in Charleston, W. Va. marks a historic rejoining of two churches that have been separated for nearly 87 years. Boyd Christian Church and First Christian Church were one when founded in 1889, but the congregation split in 1917 for logistical reasons and to make it easier for people to travel to church services. The United Disciples of Christ Church will be born out of the merger. Organizers hope that the new church will be located in a more visible, more accessible location. "We will need to put the two existing churches up for sale and begin looking for a new, permanent location. That may be an existing church building, but could also be a property, which we would build on," said Kevin DiGregorio, a member of Boyd and head of the communications team for the new church project. The merger was overwhelmingly approved on Sunday, November 7. Shrinking membership, declining attendance, financial struggles and poor location have plagued both churches within recent years.

Bible Study was led by the Rev. Dr. Charles (Buz) Myers, Chair of the Department of Religion at Gettysburg College. He also led worship along with Commissioner and Synod Vice Moderator Ed Gray (Clergy, Washington) and Mr. Warren Cooper of Philadelphia. The betting sort soon will learn the Wheeling Island Racetrack and Gaming Center should be a destination of priority. Greyhound racing, off-track betting, video lottery and a new shipment of old-fashioned slot machines, or "one-armed bandits," will make an evening at Wheeling Island a feast of activity. In 2003 the property expanded to include an entertainment complex and a 150-room hotel. To wrap up a perfect day in Wheeling, music is always an excellent idea. The Capitol Music Hall features performances from country to classical as the venue for Jamboree USA and the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra. The hall is the oldest performance space of its kind in West Virginia and attracts a wide variety of touring musical groups and Broadway shows as well. Everyone from Kenny Rogers to the Dixie Chicks has strolled across the stage, delighting audiences for decades. With the symphony routinely presenting outstanding repertoires of both classical and pops-style orchestrations, the Capitol Music Hall promises to continue its entertaining tradition far into the next millennium.
