General Headquarters Orders, Valley Force, dated 9 June 1778, read, "Three captains and nine lieutenants are wanted to officer the Company of Sappers. As the Corps will be a school of engineering, it opens a prospect to such gentlemen as enter it...." Shortly after the publishing of the order, the "school" moved to the river fortifications at West Point, New York. With the end of the war and the mustering out of the Army, the school closed. However, the Regiment of Artillerists and Engineers was constituted as a military school and was reopened at the same location in 1794. For four years it constituted a school of application for new engineers and artillerists. Closing in 1798, due to a fire that destroyed many facilities, the engineers were without a school for three years.

KCTV 5 ^

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. The interest in the story over Shuma the service dog continues to be overwhelming. Last Thursday, KCTV5 News told you about a hurricane evacuee from Mississippi who wants his dog back. After fleeing the storm, John Wyrick gave his dog to Lynn Nevills of Independence, because his temporary housing arrangement would not allow pets. Wyrick said he made a mistake and wants Shuma the German Shepherd back, but Nevills refuses. Several KCTV5 viewers have offered her money, as much as one thousand dollars if she will just return the dog. But, Shuma is still in Independence with...

Woman Trend conducted a poll in April 2005 and found that 62 percent of respondents fell into the pro-life...

Washington University School Songs
The earliest surviving collections of school songs date from the 1880s. Many of these early school songs were popular tunes of the day, such as songs from Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, with parody lyrics about college life. The first known Alma Mater was written in 1906 by William Schuyler, class of 1874. Sheet music and lyrics to the song were published as a supplement to the February 1906 issue of Student Life . At the bottom of the title page to the sheet music is a notation: "In the absence of an official Song, this is the Alma Mater for the time being" In 1907, the director of the W.U. Glee Club, Arthur Lieber, proposed to his students that they write an Alma Mater and suggested that it be based on the traditional German song, "How Can I Leave Thee". Two glee club members, Milton Rosenheim and George Logan, both class of 1908, wrote verses to the song - Rosenheim wrote the first verse; Logan the second. The lyrics were printed in Student Life and the song quickly became accepted as the University's Alma Mater. The words are:
