Overview
Academy graduates are awarded a Bachelor of Science degree and commissioned as Second Lieutenants in the U.S. Army. They must serve a minimum of five years on active duty followed by three years in the reserves. Unlike virtually all other bachelor-degree granting institutions in the U.S. (but like the other military academies), the Academy does not refer to its students as freshmen, sophomores, juniors, or seniors; they are instead officially called "fourth class," "third class," "second class," and "first class." Colloquially, freshmen are "plebes"; sophomores, "yearlings" or "yuks"; juniors, "cows"; seniors, "firsties." edit

Did Terrorist Pilots Train at U.S. Military Schools?
Original Link: http://www.madcowprod.com/index5.html
"The only real news you get after something big is in the first couple of days."
In addition to having been inducted into the U.S. flight training program by two Dutch-owned flight schools in Venice, Florida, as many as six of the terrorists, including ringleader Mohammed Atta, also received training at U.S. military facilities, according to a flurry of stories between Sept 15 and 17 in the Washington Post, Newsweek, and Knight Ridder newspapers.
The story had an extremely short life.
Newsweek reported that "U.S. military sources have given the FBI information that suggests five of the alleged hijackers of the planes used in Tuesday's terror attacks received training at secure U.S. military installations in the 1990s."
Knight Ridder’s news account was more specific. It said Mohamed Atta had attended International Officers School at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Ala. In addition, Abdulaziz Alomari had attended Aerospace Medical School at Brooks Air Force base in Texas, they reported, and Saeed Alghamdi had been to the Defense Language Institute in Monterrey, California.
If true, these reports would have dealt a blow to the consensus portrait then emerging of the terrorist cadre as puritanical Islamic fundamentalists.

Brief History
The land occupied by the old part of the reservation
belonged to the British crown.
The first settlement probably dates from 1723,
when a royal grant was made to Charles Congreve.
Another portion of the reservation was patented to
John Moore in 1747.
Although West Point had been occupied continuously
by troops since 1779, it did not become government
property until 1790, when at the request of its owner,
Stephen Moore, congress appropriated the money
for its purchase. Subsequent acquisitions were made from time to time until by 1943 the reservation comprised approximately 14,000 acres. At the outbreak of the Revolutionary War, both the colonists and the British realized the importance of gaining possession of the Hudson river valley, and West Point became the strategic key to its defense. General Washington established his headquarters there in 1779.

http://www.aclu-wa.org/Issues/otherissues/militaryrecruitmentschools.html
February 21, 2003 (updated April 18th, 2005) Military Recruitment and Schools Some Washington parents are up in arms that public schools are releasing their children’s personal information to military recruiters without adequate parental consent. Given the country’s politically charged environment since 9/11, students and parents object to feeling pressured to respond to unsolicited recruiting letters from the United States military. Some parents opposed to a war in Iraq find the possibility of military recruiters having access to their children’s personal information especially troubling. Recent immigrants who are particularly vulnerable in the current political environment are confused and frightened. In January 2002, Congress passed the “No Child Left Behind Act,” a law addressing academic standards, teacher quality, and school safety. It requires school districts receiving federal funds to provide student names, addresses, and phone numbers on request to various branches of the United States military for recruiting purposes. Schools must also allow military recruiters the same access to students as they do institutions of higher education and employers.
