SERHOLD to OCLC Batch Update Is Here!
It's easy to participate! If you library has its own OCLC code, just go to your DOCUSER record, select the "Codes" tab, and, in the Batch Update Authorization field, select "NLM is authorized to send a copy of my library's holdings to OCLC" and then, this July, your SERHOLD holdings data will be batched into a file and sent to OCLC. Updates that you make after that will then be sent to OCLC on a quarterly basis. Make this simple change to your DOCUSER record today, so that your library's data are included in the first batch transfer, scheduled to take place shortly after the 4th of July holiday. Unfortunately, libraries that are part of a larger institution with one OCLC code (i.e., MWF) with multiple holding library codes for each "branch" (for example, MWFA and MWFB) can not participate in this service. This is because the batch transfer would delete holdings for other units that share that same OCLC code. NLM has provided details about this at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/services/doc_batch_update_serholdtooclc_multiple_oclcids.html

Silk Road Seattle is an ongoing Internet public education project using the "Silk Road" theme to encompass cultural interaction across Eurasia over some two millennia, down to the end of the seventeenth century. The project began in 2002 as part of a series of public events sponsored primarily by the Walter Chapin Simpson Center for the Humanities at the University of Washington in conjunction with the Silkroad Project concerts of the famous cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Our goal is to make freely accessible on the Internet a wide range of teaching and learning materials. These materials have already enriched my survey course on the Silk Road and facilitated my teaching an experimental on-line, non-credit course that enrolled students from around the world. Some highlights of the collection include: Historical Texts Art of the Silk Road View of the ancient Syrian caravan city of Palmyra, engraving from Robert Wood, The Ruins of Palmyra, otherwise Tadmor, in the desert

    Updated July 21, 2005.
Prepared by Ann Hemmens for Washington Legal Researcher's Deskbook , 3d ed. The following list of law libraries in Washington State is divided by type of library: state, county, court, and academic. Collections, services, staffing, and hours vary widely, especially among the county law libraries. Not all these libraries are “public libraries” that allow anyone to use their materials. Call the listed libraries for information about access and services. This guide also contains links to directories of U.S. law library websites and directories of websites of other types of libraries (academic, public, special, and state libraries) located in the U.S. and worldwide. Other types of libraries may have legal collections. Many large public libraries have legal collections that include selected primary source material (such as the Revised Code of Washington and the United States Code ) as well as a variety of self-help law books written for the general public (such as Landlord/Tenant Rights in Washington (Self-Counsel Press, 1999) and
