This Concentration prepares students for jobs within academic areas of postsecondary institutions and organizations. In particular, it prepares students for dealing with the teaching and learning enterprise. Some students may already have graduate education within disciplinary fields and wish to use this Concentration to develop and extend expertise for course development and delivery. Some students may be acquiring expertise so as to provide support for the academic enterprise in teaching and learning centers, assessment activities, and academic support centers. College Teaching and Academic Leadership (CTAL) Program Plan - 5 student-selected courses
EDUC 273 Foundations of College Student Development (3)
EDUC 220 Assessment in Higher Education (3)
EDUC 380 Legal Issues in Higher Education (3)
EDUC 381 College and University Curriculum (3)
EDUC 382 Teaching Strategies for Adult Learners (3)
At least one course on design of distance learning selected in conjunction with adviser
Other courses on relevant topics such as adult education as available College Teaching and Academic Leadership Learning Objectives
All students will be expected to acquire knowledge relevant to:
  • Nature and dimensions of a learning organization, learning theory, the application of learning for traditional students as well as adult and non-traditional learners (273, 382)
