General Education Task Force Mission and Reports
The Academic Coordinating Committee (ACC) of the Faculty Senate recommended in May 2001 that a special Task Force on General Education be formed. The Task Force on General Education was formed in Fall 2001 by Provost Andrew Bodman. In Fall 2002, The Task Force released a draft of the purposes of general education and two proposed models of general education programs to the campus community. Since then, and in accordance with its charge from faculty governance, the Task Force gathered extensive feedback on general education alternatives from faculty, staff and students. The group made its final recommendations to the ACC in Spring 2003.

Eric Jorgensen Quilcene School Nominated by Kacey Ingalls Seventh-grader Quilcene Middle School Mr. J is beyond word limits I walked down the hall and into classroom number six. I looked on the board and found where my seat was. Yes, I thought, right by Leslie and Chelsea! "Hello, and welcome to the sixth grade. My name is Mr. Jorgensen, but you can call me Mr. J." So began my favorite year of school. Mr. J was the best. He was always asking us to evaluate our work and other stuff like that. He was a fanatic about writing, and probably was the best teacher for giving feedback and encouraging changes in our work. We would tear it apart until we thought it was good enough. I used to hate writing, I used to think that it was useless and boring, but after my sixth-grade year I found out that writing was a way to express myself and to tell people what I really thought. He always encouraged us to read our papers aloud and to take feedback from our peers. It was a great way to learn how to speak in front of an audience comfortably. I am a better writer because of Mr. J's teaching. Even the everyday work was fun. Sometimes a little strange, but always fun. We always did a lot of hands-on activities. One thing that I thought was really fun was when we would fly to a different country. The first place we "flew" to was Africa. We each chose a country and did a report about it. Mr. J even convinced us that we were getting real passports. On flying day, he would stop us at the door and stamp our passports. Then he would put on his little flyer hat, you know the ones with the propeller, and then we would flap our arms to get off the ground.
