This past spring, 2003, the concept of charter schools finally gained legislative support in both the State Senate and the State House of Representatives. Legislation has been readied for a final vote only to be delayed by state-wide economic concerns and special attention being focused on Boeing the budget. After concluding the regular legislative session and a special legislative session this spring, House Speaker, Frank Chopp, failed to bring the legislation to the House floor for a final vote, twice. Washington State House of Representative and Senate leaders are ready to vote in favor of approving Washington charter school legislation.
