MINNESOTA CHRONICLE
The following chronology is offered as an introduction to Minnesota's role in the new millennium. EXPLORATION AND TERRITORY French traders Pierre Radisson and the Sieur de Groseilliers reached Wisconsin and probably Minnesota. Daniel Greysolon Dulhut (Duluth) held a council with the Dakota (Sioux) near Mille Lacs Lake. Father Louis Hennepin, after being held captive in a village of the Mille Lacs Dakota, was the first European to see the Falls of St. Anthony. On May 8, Nicholas Perrot, at Fort St. Antoine, on Lake Pepin's Wisconsin shore, laid formal claim to the surrounding country for France. He also built a fort on the Minnesota shore of the lake, near its downstream end. The French continued to develop forts and settlements in Minnesota such as Isle Pelee north of Red Wing in 1695, Fort L. Huillier near Mankato in 1700, Fort Beauharnois near Frontenac in 1727 and in 1731 Fort St. Pierre by International Falls and Fort St. Charles in the Northwest Angle. The Ojibwa won the decisive battle in their war with the Dakota at the Great Dakota village of Kathio on the western shore of Mille Lacs. The Ojibwa eventually drove the Dakota into southern and western Minnesota. The Treaty of Paris, following the French and Indian War, ceded French territory east of the Mississippi River to England.

On December 24, 1814, the Treaty of Ghent is signed between the United States and Great Britain, ending the War of 1812. Teenhelp.org Support Forums Mind and Body PDA View Full Version : HELP on the Hartfor Convention!! evelyn 08-25-2004, 08:46 AM Our US History teacher has given us an essay to write on the three amendments of the Hartford Convention and how they would have changed the situation in 1814.
The problem is, I don't get the whole thing!
1) Why couldn't New England propose the Convention once the War of 1812 was over? Did it matter?
2) An amendment stated that slave be eliminated from population count for House representations. Does that mean if you have more population in your state you get more votes? And WHAT IS THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIONS?
3) Another amendment stated that two thirds vote is required from the Congress to declare war or admit a new state. So the Congress didn't work that way? They didn't go with the majority? (2/3 would be majority...so if they propose this, were they implying that the Congress DIDN'T go with the majority when they voted on the War of 1812? HOW DID THE CONGRESS WORK anyway?)
4) Limit the president to a single term? So they could get Madison off the stage as quickly as possible? (Was Madison on his first term during the War of 1812?) and why does it matter if 2 presidents in succession came from the same state? and how would that have changed the situation in towards the end of the war?
