Born in Manchester, England, in 1882, Sylvia Pankhurst was the daughter of Emmeline Pankhurst, a champion of woman suffrage who became active in the late 1880s. Sylvia won a scholarship to the Royal College of Art and in London divided her time between her studies and involvement in her mother's campaign to win women the right to vote. With her mother and older sisterChristabelshe helped found the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU) in 1903, a political organization dedicated to achieving equality between the sexes, with an emphasis on female enfranchisement. In 1906, she abandoned her studies and a promising career in art to pursue politics full time. A socialist, she believed that lower-class women would never be liberated until they were brought out of poverty. Because of this view, she began to drift from her more conservative mother and sister, who were focused on the goal of woman suffrage. Nevertheless, she remained a dedicated member of the WSPU and, like her sister and mother, was arrested numerous times for nonviolent protests and conducted hunger strikes. When Christabel and other members of the WSPU began to advocate violent acts of agitationparticularly arsonSylvia, a pacifist, opposed them.

War, Rape, and Cruelty
From [the deceitful heart] naturally arises a plentiful harvest of all evil words and works; and to complete the whole, that complex of all evils,
That foul monster, War, that we meet,
Lays deep the noblest work of the creation;
Which wears in vain its Maker's glorious image,
Unprivileged from thee!
In the train of this fell monster are murder, adultery, rape, violence, and cruelty of every kind. John Wesley (1703-1791), founder of Methodism,
Sermon 123
, THE DECEITFULNESS OF THE HUMAN HEART
In 1996, the General Conference of The United Methodist Church (UMC) adopted the resolution "Rape in Times of Conflict and War." The resolution presents background on this form of violence against women and asks the UMC to condemn all forms of rape as incompatible with the Church's understanding of the sacredness of life; and to affirm the right of all persons to safety, nurture, and care. It also directs the General Board of Global Ministries, United Methodist Committee on Relief, and General Board of Church and Society to take several actions. This web page provides material through which readers can learn more about this issue and what the church and others are doing to address rape used as a weapon of war. Warning: Some of the links to information on this page will contain frank language and graphic descriptions of violence.

Welcome This webpage is devoted to my hobby of digital photography. It is divided into three galleries: Wellington, Wargaming and Family . Each gallery has a number of 'rooms'. Each room contains photos belonging to a different topic. Want to know has happened to the Pocket General? Click here to findout Wargaming This gallery is devoted to photos of my other hobby Wargaming. Wargaming is a hobby in which players use miniature figures (usually between 2mm to 25mm in size) to fight pretend battles on table tops. Wellington This galley contains photos of my home town. LEANDRO L. FULLON (1873-1904)
Commanding General for the Visayas
Philippine Revolutionary Army (Katipunan)
On September 6, 1898, General Leandro Fullon embarked on the gunboat Don Francisco
at Cavite to command Filipino revolutionary forces on the island of Panay. Together with
Generals Ananias Diocno and Martin Delgado, he led Filipino troops against Spanish forces
under General Diego de los Rios. When the Philippine Islands were ceded over to the United
States at the end of the Spanish American War, they continued to fight against American
troops commanded by Generals Marcus P. Miller and Robert P. Hughes. Throughout the conflict, Fullon urged military leaders on the island to remain united and the troops to adhere to the highest standards of discipline, integrity and patriotism. He sought to resolve conflicts between the civilian government and the military leadership of Panay while battling corruption and abuses of power in both sectors.
