Sorry, your browser doesn't support Java(tm). Teach English to teens and young adults in school classrooms, or care for infants in a "special needs" ward in this old-world Eastern European country.
You don't need special skills to teach conversational English skills, or to nurture a disabled or abandoned baby. No matter the circumstances of their birth, infants, toddlers and teens understand the nurturing touch and kind words of a caring adult. Deserving children in our Romanian host communities eagerly await your help today. "We thank you for all you have done ...
The children live because the volunteers keep coming."
~ Dr. Delia Asoltanei, Tutova Hospital Romania Volunteer Program Dates Romania Volunteer Work Projects Nothing says "love" like a child's smile! In Tutova, you can help feed and care for babies who arrive at the "failure-to-thrive ward" shortly after birth. Each day, volunteers stimulate, love and nurture them in a way a parent would. Just playing with these children will make a huge difference in their lives. And you will benefit from the healing smiles and warm hugs of your small charges. Physicians can also be helpful, but note: flexibility is key, as equipment and medicine are scarce throughout this country.

Career and Job Highlights for Adult Literacy Teachers
  • There are a lot of part time teachers who teach adult literacy and remedial and self-enrichment classes for which they receive no benefits, much like the unpaid volunteers who teach the same courses.
  • A raise in the population of limited English speakers is expected to create many job opportunities for English as second language teachers.
  • As more and more people seek ways to continue lifelong learning, and more people, like retirees, have the free time to do so, the demand for self-enrichment classes is expected to increase.
Adult Literacy Teaching and Education Career Overview
The teaching ideas and techniques that self-enrichment educators use vary because of the many different subjects and courses they teach. Classes are relaxed and slow paced on the whole. Some focus on hands-on activities where the student learns through doing the activity, like drawing or cooking. In these types of classes teachers may model a desired approach and then monitor the students’ development in replicating that task or skill. In other classes instructors may involve students more passively, in group discussion or reading assignments. This teaching style tends to lend itself to more academically based subjects like history or finance. Subjects like Bible history or family planning are often taught by self-enrichment teachers through a church or other religious institution.

Volunteering with your family

If you would like to find a new, fun way to spend time with your family, consider family volunteering. Imagine you and your family planting trees with the Nature Conservatory or collecting data on dolphins with the Earthwatch Institute. Donating time with your brothers and sisters, your sons and daughters, your aunt, your foster mom, your dad, or even all 16 of your cousins offers a unique way for your family to spend time together while helping your community. Adult/Continuing Education. We know what you're thinking: "I already went to college! What more do I need?" But adult education offers so much more than information. Even a one-day seminar or a series of night courses can provide the extra skills or certification you desire. Most continuing ed classes are designed to accommodate the schedules of busy professionals so they are flexible in their offerings.
Adult and continuing education classes offer many benefits to the savvy job seeker:
Particularly for career changers or rising executives, education demonstrates to an employer that you are motivated, eager to stay on the cutting edge of your industry and willing to put in the work to achieve your highest potential. Whether you are in the midst of a course or have already completed one, additional education is always impressive and particular certifications may boost your chances (and your eventual salary range).
