Biomes Biomes of the World This site is ideal for finding brief information about biomes. Build-A-Prairie The prairie is one of North America's great ecosystems and a vital habitat for many plants and animals. The prairie once spread across 1.5 million square kilometers of the Great Plains! Today, only two percent
of native prairie remains. Build-A-Prairie is an interactive game which lets you restore the prairie. In addition to the game, you have access to a Field Guide of prairie plants, birds, insects, and mammals as well as Quicktime movies and VR panoramas of prairies. Brought to you by Bell LIVE! 1999 and the University of Minnesota. Camp Silos Exploring the Prairie, Pioneer Farming, The Story of Corn and Farming Today and Tomorrow are the areas covered by this website. Each area is divided into a Student area, a Teacher area (with lesson plans), and Resources. This is a great site for combining the study of US westward expansion and biomes. Ecosystems The students who created this site begin with clarification of the difference between a biome and an ecosystem. The vegetation and wildlife of ten biomes are covered. This site has an emphasis on environmental protection; each page concludes with an overview of the effects of humans on the biome. Explore the Fantastic Forest Habitats and Biomes Created by students, this site clarifies the difference between a habitat and biome.

First Understand, Disasters are going to happen!!
Each year devastating disasters ravage our nation, leaving behind countless victims. Pre-disaster planning can have a dramatic impact on minimizing the tragedy and suffering, resulting in a more efficient and coordinated (non panicked) response, and will save lives. Now is the time to prepare for these conditions. Do not wait until it is too late. And, do not be fooled into thinking that only other people are affected. Remember tornadoes, blizzards, floods, earthquakes, fires and biohazard material spills, can be due to a large number of different reasons, how well you plan, prepare and response to those situations will determine if you and your family will survive them.

Their study is called volcanology. The term volcano is commonly applied both to the vent and to the conical mountain (cone) built up around the vent by the erupted rock materials. Volcanoes are described as active, dormant, or extinct. The soil resulting from decomposition of volcanic materials is extremely fertile, and the ash itself is a good polishing and cleansing agent. Disaster and your Animals Everyone knows disaster can strike at any time either with or without warning Some possible disasters AT ANY TIME YOU COULD BE FACED WITH:
    Earthquake
    Flood
    Storm
    Tsunami
    Volcanoe
    Oil Spill THE RESULT:
As a result of a disaster:
    • You may have to leave your home or even your district. Depending on the nature of the disaster, you may not be able to find your pets or be able to take them with you in the event of an evacuation. The first concern of Civil Defence workers is human life. They may be unable to assist your pets. It is possible you may be unable to return to your home for many days.
HOW CAN YOU BEST HELP YOUR ANIMALS? Be prepared at all times-you never know when a disaster will strike. There are three things you can do to help your domestic pets now, just in case.
    • • Have a permanent disc on your pet's collar with your name, phone number and, if possible, address. • Always have a carry-box with a blanket or towel ready. Identify the box with your name, address and phone number. The box is always useful for emergency trips to the vet! • Keep an emergency supply of tinned food.
