How To Make A Living Out Of Doing What You Love
While growing up you've likely been asked, "What are you going to do when you grow up?" Many children say "doctor" or "lawyer" or "astronaut" - all are wonderful choices, yet frankly, standard answers for young people. But perhaps you said that you didn't know. Maybe you said that whatever it is, you just want to have fun doing it. And then one day it hit you - why not get a job doing what you've enjoyed doing all along? Can't your work reflect your creative passions in life? Does a job have to be conventional?... Click Here for more! Art School Vs. University Click here for more. The BFA Degree Click here for more. They are energetic, but also impatient and they are a result of computer technology that is more affordable and easier to use. Who are they? They are the increasing number of students, who are proficient with graphic design software prior to enrolling in their first college-level graphic design course. Its not always a bad thing to be familiar with some sort of page layout software. My mother-in-law can make some very nifty little greeting cards and can now identify a few "fonts" on billboards and signs, while we are driving around town. "Hey, that's Bembo, that's Helvetica condensed bold!" Well, she is not quite that good, but this increasing level of familiarity with do-it-yourself graphic design tools is a reality...

Glasgow School of Art
Background
Glasgow School of Art is one of the very few remaining independent Art Schools in the United Kingdom. The School was founded in 1845 as a Government School of Design. Towards the end of the 19th century, the study and practice of the fine arts and architecture became part of the curriculum, and since then the School has blossomed and flourished, creating a proud and unique identity.
The School has occupied its present site since 1899 and at the heart of the campus is Charles Rennie Mackintosh's masterwork, now known as the Mackintosh Building. Mackintosh, one of the School's former pupils, was commissioned in 1896 to design this building to provide a home for the School. It has subsequently become a place of pilgrimage for visitors from around the world but remains fundamentally a working Art School and a continued source of inspiration to those who work within it.
Location
Glasgow School of Art is within ten minutes’ walking distance of both rail termini, and the airport bus terminus.

INFORMATION FOR VISUAL ART STUDENTS Almost every college in the country offers a degree in art. Programs vary greatly from school to school, but visual artists have perhaps the greatest degree of choice among types of schools, ranging from liberal arts colleges and universities with strong studio art departments to BFA granting art schools. You should not feel that the only way to study art is to go to "art school." At most liberal arts colleges, you can major in studio art, thereby spending a good portion of your time doing art. Some universities (i.e., Washington University in St. Louis, Alfred University, University of Michigan, and others) contain both liberal arts colleges and art schools, allowing students much flexibility including the option to pursue the rigorous BA/BFA double-degree. A few schools offer diploma programs. While not able to earn a degree, students in diploma programs have access to excellent teachers and facilities and are allowed the flexibility to concentrate solely on their art work.
