JGV Direct is a web-based service for rapid publication of JGV papers. Papers accepted for publication in JGV, and considered by the Editors to be of special importance, are published on the web here at our JGV at SGM site within days of receipt at the Editorial Office following acceptance. All papers published in JGV Direct will subsequently appear in the hard-copy and online versions of JGV. From 2004, all papers appear as PDF files. These papers are in press (i.e. accepted, awaiting processing or awaiting proofing). Please note that titles and content are liable to change during preparation for publication.

The structural virology group in the Department of Biological Sciences at Purdue University consists of six different laboratories that use a combination of cryo-electron microscopy, crystallography, and molecular biology to elucidate the processes of viral entry, replication, and pathogenesis. One of the strengths of this group is the extensive network of collaborative efforts between the laboratories. Jue Chen:
Biochemical and structural studies of Flavivirus entry mechanism. Alan Friedman:
X-ray crystallography to study virus structure. Richard J. Kuhn:
Molecular biology techniques to examine the process of virus replication, assembly and pathogenesis. Carol Post:
NMR and molecular dynamics to examine virus assembly, uncoating, and the mechanisms of virus-drug interactions. Michael Rossmann:
X-ray crystallographic techniques to probe the structure/function relationshiops of several viruses and their receptors. David A. Sanders:

Department of Biological Sciences, Lehigh University, Bethlehem PA 18015 In this course, we will study viruses at the levels of their molecular biology and genetics, and their interactions with the host organism. Our coverage will focus almost entirely on viruses that infect humans and cause serious disease. Throughout the course, we will take a comparative approach, and ask questions from a biophysical and evolutionary perspective. The course will be somewhat self-contained on this website. We will also make extensive use of other web sources. Useful sites include the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (including its journal Emerging Infectious Diseases and its Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report ), the World Health Organization , and a site called All the Virology on the WWW , which has links to pictures and background information. Lehigh has electronic subscriptions to many journals publishing new virology research; the ones we will use the most are
