We help to provide research-based horticultural information, tips, techniques and advice to the community. We do this primarily through Plant Clinics - held in various locations throughout the county during the months of April through September - and through our Diagnostic Laboratory. A Slide Talk Prepared for the Town of Blacksburg by
Gibson Worsham, Architect
Yellow Sulphur Springs
3145 Yellow Sulphur Road
Christiansburg, Virginia 24073
The central commercial and residential portion of the town of Blacksburg included in the boundaries of the Blacksburg Historic District has recently been surveyed for the Town of Blacksburg and its Architectural Review Board, with funding through the town's participation in the Certified Local Government Program of the Virginia Department of Historic Resources. The survey was intended to complete the inventory and evaluation of the above-ground architectural resources in the district and to provide local government and other planning agencies with information that may be used to support the successful development of local preservation planning tools such as design guidelines, historic overlay zoning, and design review. The slide show concentrates chiefly on the newly surveyed properties in the district, but includes some photographs of other important structures.

The Civil War is a major collecting focus for the University Libraries. Manuscript collections contain letters and diaries from both Union and Confederate soldiers, homefront letters, memoirs, and contemporary research files. The backbone of the printed collection, located in the Special Collections' Rare Book Room, is the Elden E. Josh Billings Collection which consists of approximately 6,000 monographs. Subsantial subsequent donations of books have come from Homer E. and Margaret Davis and Ronald Alt. Since 1996, the book collection has been enhanced with acquisitions made possible through a generous grant from the George R. Wallace Foundations. Go to Guide to the Manuscript Resources for Civil War Research for more on Civil War Manuscripts. Some of the Civil War manuscripts collections with online guides include:
