Learn to speak Conversational Vietnamese Language
Why Language Learning is Difficult

Studies show that in most languages, native-speakers tend to use less than 3,000 unique words on a daily basis. Then why is learning a seond language such an overwhelming task?
First, the written target language may use new characters if not an entirely new character set. Characters are put together to form new, unique and often unfamiliar sounds, even new pitches and inflections. For each word currently utilized in your native language, you must memorize the equivalent word in your target language.
Then you must learn rules for putting words together to form complete sentences of meaning, sentence structure. Then grammar with it's inherent rules and exceptions. Lastly, there's comprehension, listening and understanding at normal conversation speed.
It's no wonder so many people fail to learn a second language. Broken down to it's components, the challenge is overwhelming if not insurmountable. The Problem with False Claims
Many language websites, books, and software providers claim they can teach you to be fluent in a matter of days? Even offering

Temple Vietnam
Vietnamese Buddhism
68 Bradeen Street
Roslindale, MA 02131
Temple Vietnam was founded in 1986 when a group of 25-30 Vietnamese people from the Boston area met weekly for prayer in one another's homes. It opened at its present site in 1991 and maintains ties with other Vietnamese temples in the state and with the international Vietnamese Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh. Although the temple does not have a resident monk, the spiritual leader is Thich Nguyen Hanh of Houston, Texas. The temple observes a form of Mahayana Buddhism that seeks to combine aspects of Pure Land Buddhism with the Zen tradition, according to one of its founders, Dr. Chi Nguyen. Occupying a former day-care center located between Jamaica Plain's Forest Hills section and Roslindale Square, this temple is the first permanent place of worship for the area's Vietnamese Buddhists. It was remodeled in 1993 and now includes a temple/meditation room, a function room, a garden and a parking area. About 50 people come to the weekly services, but for larger celebrations, the temple accommodates 300-500 people. The temple's members, about 10 percent of whom are ethnic Chinese from Vietnam, come from across the greater Boston area. The temple is governed by a six-member board of directors and its president, Mrs. Bich Nguyen. Temple Vietnam offers bilingual services on the first Sunday of the month, meditation and Dharma talks, occasional Saturday meditation retreats, and, on Sunday afternoon, classes in which children learn the Vietnamese language, history, geography and tradition. Dr. Nguyen says that all forms of meditation are welcome. "What matters is not the method but if they bring you back to your true self." All activities are open to the public.

Monterey, CA, Oct. 28 (UPI) The Defense Language Institute in Monterey, Calif., has junked its Vietnamese language program, focusing its resources instead on Arabic. In 1969, the school trained 4,887 people to speak Vietnamese; this year's class numbered three. Over its life, the Vietnamese language program trained 23,000 students, the San Jose (Calif.) Mercury News reports. Today is a bittersweet day as we close," Col. Michael Simone, commandant of the military institute, told the final Vietnamese language graduates during a ceremony last week. Currently, 830 students are enrolled in the Arabic language program, 740 in the Korean program and 210 in the Farsi program. The school was founded in 1941 and the Vietnamese program began in 1954 after the French defeat at Dien Bien Phu. Analysis: After Arafat, the deluge

Languages VN Embassy Learn about Vietnam Culture : Languages There have been many theories regarding the origin of the Vietnamese language. The most persuasive one argues that the Vietnamese language previously belonged to the Mon-Khmer group of the Southeast Asian linguistic system, it was later transformed into Viet-Muong language (or old Vietnamese language) and then separated to form the modern Vietnamese language. In the present-day Vietnamese language, many words have been proved to contain Mon-Khmer roots and to be phonetically and semantically relevant to the Muong language. Throughout a millennium of Chinese domination and under the Vietnamese feudal dynasties, the official language was the Han , but the Vietnamese always demonstrated its strength for self-preservation and development. The Han language was pronounced in the Vietnamese way, called the Han-Viet way of pronunciation, and Vietnamized in various ways to create many commonly used Vietnamese words. The diverse development of the Vietnamese language brought about the birth of a system of writing scripts transcribing the Vietnamese language on the basis of the Han characters in the 13th century, called the

    Introduction
Vietnam is a country with a rich diversity of ethnicities, including such language groups as Mon-Khmer (94% of total population), Kadai (3.7%; also called Daic or Tai-Kadai), Miao-Yao (1.1%), Austronesian (0.8%), Tibeto-Burman, and Han (Grimes 1996). It is reported that there are 54 official ethnic groups, 86 living languages, and 1 extinct language (Grimes 1996). Among the ethnic groups, Viet ) or Kinh ) is the majority, and it accounts for 87% of Vietnam's total population (Dang 2000:1). The mother tongue of Viet is the so-called Vietnamese language. The Viet people mainly live in the deltas of the Red River and the Mekong River, and the coastal plains of central Vietnam. The other ethnic groups mostly reside in mountain areas stretching from north to south, and their areas cover around two-third of the whole country (Pham 1997:67). Recently, Nung Ven and Xapho (or Laghuu ), two languages in North Vietnam were discovered and reported by Edmondson’s research team.
