Floddeltaerne er særdeles frugtbare og fyldt med rismarker. Vietnams største by hedder Ho Chi Minh Byen med over 6 millioner indbyggere. I nord ligger hovedstaden Hanoi. Bambusstangen er den store Truong Son bjergkæde, der mod vest afgrænser landet fra dets naboer Laos og Cambodja. I nord grænser Vietnam op til Kina. Risskålen er de to store floddeltaer. I gamle dage var Vietnam næsten dækket af regnskov. Krig og rovdrift har gjort, at der i dag kun er 25 pct. af skoven tilbage. Nu er skoven fredet og her lever elefanter, tigre, leoparder, næsehorn, sorte bjørne og andre vilde dyr. Mange af dem er sjældne. Inde i den tætte regnskov er der konstant forskere på opdagelse efter ukendte dyrearter.
