Originally from Maryland, I have lived in Southern California since 1995. I joined the Department of Geography last year from USC's Health Science Campus where I worked from 2000-2003. The University Park Campus is diverse and inviting with the hustle and bustle of students and the amazing greenery. Environment is everything. I enjoy ministry and being involved at my local church. My passion is writing and I started my first book in June 2004 (it began as a short storyup to chapter 6). Hopefully this will be the first of many. Can you say, "New York Times Best Seller List?"

New Geography
Excerpts from ZetaTalk on New Geography
Excerpts from Earth in Upheaval, The Ivory Islands
by Velikovsky, page 4-6
Fossil tusks of the mammoth - an extinct elephant - were found in northern Siberia and brought southward to markets at a very early time. Northern Siberia provided more than half the world's supply of ivory, many piano keys and many billiard balls being made from the fossil tusks of mammoths. In 1797 the body of a mammoth, with flesh, skin, and hair, was found in northeastern Siberia. The flesh had the appearance of freshly frozen beef; it was edible, and wolves and sled dogs fed on it without harm. The ground must have been frozen ever since the day of their entombment; had it not been frozen, the bodies of the mammoths would have putrefied in a single summer, but they remained unspoiled for some thousands of years. In some mammoths, when discovered, even the eyeballs were still preserved. (All) this shows that the cold became suddenly extreme .. and knew no relenting afterward. In the stomachs and between the teeth of the mammoths were found plants and grasses that do not grow now in northern Siberia .. (but are) .. now found in southern Siberia. Microscopic examination of the skin showed red blood corpuscles, which was proof not only of a sudden death, but that the death was due to suffocation either by gases or water.
Excerpts from ZetaTalk on Sinking Atlantic
As we have stated, the Atlantic will widen and the Pacific will shorten. Where the Pacific effect will cause sudden and violent subduction of several plates, which are already subducting, in the Atlantic the effect will be the opposite. A gulf will appear, with plates torn apart and the softer magma under the plates exposed to the cold Atlantic water. Where this will harden the magma, and establish new plate surface, there will be less support for the abridging plates, those that attach however remotely to the shorelines of the Americas, Europe, and Africa. These non-supported plates will sink, somewhat, bringing their formerly above-water land masses down under the water in many places. As an instance, Europe and in particular the western islands of Britain and Ireland will find itself more affected than some other parts of the globe.

    CHAPTER 6
    THE BYPASSED EAST
A map of America's eastern seaboard reveals a lack of large cities along the coast north of Boston. Few major overland routes extend inland from this coast, and interior cities are generally smaller than those along the ocean. This area, comprising northern New England and the Adirondacks of New York, can be referred to as the Bypassed East ( Map 5 The Bypassed East is near, even astride, major routeways, but not on them. Ocean transportation can easily bypass the region, putting it in a transportation shadow that has produced slow regional economic growth and even stagnation. Southern New England is a part of metropolitan America. Northern New England, for the most part, is not. It is much more like Canada's Atlantic Provinces. THE PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT Much of the Bypassed East is beautiful. The Presidential Range in the White Mountains of New Hampshire contains some of the most rugged topography in the eastern United States. The extensive shoreline thrusts out into the Atlantic and meets the ocean's waves with a heavily indented coast that mixes dramatic headlands with many small coves bordered by rocky beaches. Large empty areas, almost totally lacking in settlement, are only hours away from some of the largest cities on the continent. Most of the Bypassed East is a part of the northeastern extension of the Appalachian Uplands. However, the structure of the area bears little surface resemblance to the clearly delineated ridge and valley system of the southern Appalachians.

PAST HISTORY of the Geographic Area of Caledonia County
Prior to the American Revolution, the part of the country now known as "Vermont" was claimed by New York and New Hampshire, and was known as "The New Hampshire Grants". New York divided the area into four counties: Bennington and Charlotte counties on the west, and Cumberland and Gloucester counties of the east side of the Green Mountains. (See era maps In 1791, Vermont joined the original 13 as a state in the union. On November 5, 1792, Caledonia County was incorporated from Orange County, including all that part of Vermont north of that county, and extending so far west as to include Montpelier and adjacent towns, however, the Caledonia County was not fully organized until November 8, 1796, when Danville was made the shire town. In 1811, the state of Vermont was divided into eleven counties and the counties of Orleans and Essex were incorporated from Caledonia County. In addition, in 1811, four towns from Caledonia County were incorporated into Washington County, to which Woodbury was also annexed, in 1836, and Cabot, in 1855. In 1856, the county seat was removed from Danville to St. Johnsbury where new county buildings were erected. The county was called "Caledonia" -the ancient Roman name of Scotland, out of regard for the emigrants from that country who had purchaes large tracts of land in the county, and had large and flourishing settlements in Barnet and Ryegate...

Vermont Develops Spatially Enabled Transportation Tools
By Don E. Kiel, GeoDecisions, Inc.
The GIS and information technology staff at the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) have developed spatially enabled enterprise analysis tools and applications that take advantage of a data repository to create an enterprise solution for viewing and analyzing spatial roadway data. State transportation agencies typically maintain many types of roadway data to support daily business operations. Access to accurate and current information on geometrics, traffic volumes, bridges, crashes, pavement conditions and history, and other data on infrastructure is essential for ensuring an efficient and well-maintained road system. Most transportation data contains spatial components. Development and deployment of this data using GIS tools and applications significantly improve the way transportation agencies manage roadway infrastructure information. These innovative yet easy-to-use solutions promote the adoption and use of GIS applications across the transportation industry.
    Automating Route Logs
An automated Route Logs System (RLS) was the first major application that used VTrans' integrated transportation data repository. Paper format route logs, also known as straight-line diagrams, had been used by VTrans for many years. These VTrans route logs contained stick-like, straight- line representations of portions of roadways and displayed multiple types of transportation infrastructure information in a straightforward manner.
