The Alliance for Childhood is a partnership of individuals and organizations committed to fostering and respecting each child's inherent right to a healthy, developmentally appropriate childhood. Members of the Alliance believe that childhood is a critical phase of life and must be protected to be fully experienced, not hurried. They are concerned that children today are under tremendous stress and suffer increasingly from illnesses such as allergies, asthma, hyperactive disorders, obesity and depression, and they advocate for educational and social practices to alleviate the stresses children are experiencing. Recruiting Support Personnel as Partners in Teaching Community Excellence The context: As many as 90% of educational support personnel are recruited from the communities in which they work, compared to 40% of teachers. In addition to being part of the school community, educational support personnel reflect the ethnic, racial and socioeconomic diversity of the students they serve. Students benefit when schools, parents, and community members work together on their behalf. Educational support personnel are in an ideal position to strengthen education by promoting good communication between the school and the community. School Renewal Through Building a Learning Community with All School Personnel Educational support personnel are taking on new roles in schools. With the help of their educational support personnel, schools are making dramatic changes in the way they serve children and their families. The educational support personnel are key players in new programs, serve new roles in health and safety and have new responsibilities as decision-makers. Specially trained educational support personnel work as "parent resource coordinators" in Richmond, Virginia. They design activities that support parent involvement. Parent coordinators encourage parents to become active in the PTA, sponsor a GED program, and participate in weekly parent workshops.

SEXUALITY EDUCATION CURRICULA FOR FAITH COMMUNITIES
Many sexuality education curricula are available for use in faith communities with congregants of all ages from pre-school through adulthood. While a diversity of approaches and educational styles are used and the programs support the values of the particular faith community, each of the curricula listed below supports sexuality as a special gift to be nurtured through faith-filled practice, teaching, and dialogue. We encourage readers to carefully review curricula to assure that they are appropriate for a specific faith community; however, readers may find useful lessons and approaches in curricula from denominations besides their own. This annotated bibliography was prepared by Kate M. Ott, and updates previous bibliographies published in A Time to Speak and A Time to Build. Contact us at info@religiousinstitute.org if links are no longer active or to suggest curricula to be added to this list.
