The Health Education Core also includes a suggested curriculum for schools to follow should they wish to do so. While students are expected to learn and know the health standards, the state does not require them to pass a statewide exam covering health education topics at any point in grades K-12. HIV, STD, and Pregnancy Prevention Education State Code (2002) requires the Utah State Board of Education to establish curriculum requirements that include instruction in the prevention of communicable diseases in grades 8-12.
