Contacts UTCH Home Page The Utah Christian Home School Association (U-TeaCH) provides support, education and fellowship for Christian families who have made the decision to educate their children at home. We also welcome inquiries from people who are thinking about beginning to home school. We provide field trips; workshops; support group meetings; a discount to membership in HSLDA; a high school graduation ceremony; an annual convention; an annual used book sale; a private, umbrella school; a resource library; and a monthly newsletter. We also alert members to pending legislation which might affect their right to educate their children at home.
Regional support groups are independent and offer additional activities depending upon the interests of their members.
We believe that the responsibility for training children has been given to parents by God. Parents may choose to delegate portions of this responsibility, however they will ultimately be accountable to God for what they allow their children to learn.
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up." (Deuteronomy 6:5-7)

PROGRAM POV: Refrigerator Mothers Tuesday, July 16 at 9:00 p.m. (Repeats at 3:00 a.m.) From the 1950s through the early 1970s, the American medical community thought that the root cause of autism was poor parenting. Doctors blamed the bizarre behavior on their mothers' emotional frigidity. Now autism is known to be a brain disorder. See how misdiagnosis scarred a generation of women branded as cold "refrigerator mothers." Women's Issues
A lot of financial obstacles that may face you as a woman can affect how well you live and how you plan for your financial future. Did you know?
  • Many women earn less than men. The national average for white females is about 74 cents to every dollar a white male earns. Black women's earnings were 85 percent of black men's and Hispanic women made 87 percent as much as Hispanic men (US Department of Labor, Aug. 2001) In Utah, on average women earn 73.2 percent of what men earn. (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2002 annual averages) In Utah, 24.8% of all firms are women-owned. (US Census Bureau, 1997) Nationally, about half of all women work in traditionally female, relative low paying jobs compared to men. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (2001), among women, those without a high school diploma earned $303 a week, compared with $760 a week for those with college degrees. Among men, school dropouts had earnings of $409 a week, compared with $1,022 for college graduates. Do you have a pension? Nationally, fewer women have jobs with pension plans (33%) than do working men (55%).

Access to the General Education Curriculum for Students with Disabilities. ERIC Digest.
A new goal is challenging teachers: All students, with or without disabilities, including English language learners and students who are "falling between the cracks," are to achieve in the general education curriculum. For students with disabilities, access to the general education curriculum is mandated by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act Amendments of 1997 (IDEA '97).
ATTITUDES AND BELIEF SYSTEMS
Improved student learning requires teachers, schools, and districts to give up unproductive traditions and beliefs, replacing them with validated practices and a full understanding of the intent of the law. Successful student access to the general education curriculum is most likely when there is general acceptance of the following principles: * Responsibility for the learning outcomes of special education students is equally shared by the classroom teacher and the special education teacher.

I am the father of a school-age child who has autism. This is a collection of Internet and other resources which parents of children with PDD PDD-NOS autism Asperger's Syndrome , or hyperlexia may find useful. All the information concerns teaching methods that are a branch of applied behavior analysis (ABA) called behavioral intervention . One of the methods is discrete trial training . Some (inaccurately) use the term " Lovaas method." We worked hard to get complete information, implement a program, and have our school system pay for it. My hope is to help spare other parents (and their children) some of the pain and wasted time we went through. Here are all the helpful resources I've found, with the best places to start marked . The essentials of starting a program for your child are marked to . Please also see the frequently asked questions about ABA and autism .
