53A-11-904 Grounds for suspension or expulsion from a public school
(1) A student may be suspended or expelled from a public school for any of the following reasons:
  • (a) frequent or flagrant willful disobedience, defiance of proper authority, or disruptive behavior, including the use of foul, profane, vulgar, or abusive language; (b) willful destruction or defacing of school property; (c) behavior or threatened behavior which poses an immediate and significant threat to the welfare, safety, or morals of other students or school personnel or to the operation of the school; (d) possession, control, or use of an alcoholic beverage as defined in Section 32A-1-105; or (e) behavior proscribed under Subsection (2) which threatens harm or does harm to the school or school property, to a person associated with the school, or property associated with that person, regardless of where it occurs.
(2) (a) A student shall be suspended or expelled from a public school for any of the following reasons:
  • (i) any serious violation affecting another student or a staff member, or any serious violation occurring in a school building, in or on school property, or in conjunction with any school activity, including:

Applicants for Admission to the Freshman class are required to have graduated or expect to graduate from an accredited high school before entering the University. Students graduating from a Utah high school after 2005 will be required to have earned the Utah Basic High School Diploma to be eligible for admissions. Students apply for Admission by completing and returning the Application for Undergraduate Admission to the Admissions Office by the appropriate deadline. A $35 processing fee must be included with the application. Students need to make the necessary arrangements to have an official high school transcript mailed to the Admissions Office. To be considered official, the transcript must be mailed directly from the school and must indicate the expected graduation date. Applicants are required to submit ACT scores, (SAT scores are also accepted, although ACT scores are preferred). Students are urged to take the ACT near the end of their junior year or early in the senior year of high school. Students not able to take the ACT on a national date must take the Residual ACT through the University of Utah Testing Center.
