American Indian History and Related Issues
American Indian Studies programs were created at a number of universities throughout the United States beginning in the late 1960s. The American Indian Studies Program at California State University, Long Beach celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1994 and is the oldest continuous existing program. This world wide site is a developing site supervised by Professor Troy Johnson and is dedicated to the presentation of unique artwork, photographs, video and sound recordings which accurately reflect the history, culture and richness of the Native American experience in North America and has been expanded to include Indian people of Central America and Mexico. Social Security Card
Students on F-1 visas, who are working, are eligible for a social security card and must apply in person at the local Social Security Office. Proof of visa status is required and will include passport, I-94 (white card), I-20 and a letter from the Center for International Studies. Applications and directions to the Social Security Office are available in the Center for International Studies. The Wake Forest University identification numbers are issued to students. They are used on campus for record and identification purposes, but cannot be used for Social Security purposes. Note : A social security number is optional and only required if you are actually working. Every student does not automatically receive a Social Security card. Address

About the Institute
The Canadian Institute for Mediterranean Studies (CIMS) is the result of the merger of the Society for Mediterranean Studies and the Canadian Mediterranean Institute in 1996. Since its foundation in 1980, the Canadian Mediterranean Institute has facilitated research by Canadian scholars, humanists and scientists alike regarding the Mediterranean heritage in fields ranging from archaeology, architecture, the arts and engineering, to history, language, literature, philosophy, religion and science. Also founded in 1980, the Society for Mediterranean Studies has sponsored numerous international conferences and symposia of interest to scholars and the general public. The publication of eleven volumes of the refereed journal Scripta Mediterranea , containing articles by Canadian and international scholars, has been one of the main endeavours of the society. A federal, non-profit corporation registered as a charity for income tax purpose, CIMS operates through the joint efforts of a national board of directors and active chapters in Ottawa, Toronto, Waterloo and Edmonton.

PROSPECTIVE U.S. AND PERMANENT RESIDENT STUDENTS Eligibility To receive financial assistance under Title IV Federal funding programs while attending the Monterey Institute of International Studies, you must: Be a citizen, legal permanent resident, or qualified refugee of the United States Be at least the college junior level when first receiving aid through the Institute. In order to be a junior, you must have completed at least 60 semester units which have been accepted by the Monterey Institute as transfer credits Be enrolled at least half-time (except for some undergraduate grants) as a degree-seeking student in a Monterey Institute program that leads to a BA or MA degree. Complete the required documents, beginning with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) If you were previously in default on a student loan, or owed a refund or repayment of a grant or loan, and have made satisfactory payment arrangements with the lender/provider, you must submit proof of that arrangement and your re-eligibility for aid each time you request aid the Monterey Institute.
