“I have not seen a better program for many of our minority under-represented youth."
- Ramon C. Cortines, former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Education
Breakthrough Collaborative is a national non-profit that increases educational opportunity for high-potential, low-income middle school students and inspires outstanding college and high school students to pursue careers in education. Breakthrough boasts a proven ripple effect of positive results: 82% of Breakthrough student alumni are accepted to college preparatory programs and 72% of Breakthrough teachers, many of whom were Breakthrough students, go on to pursue professional careers in education. Drawn from the public school system, 89% of Breakthrough's students are students of color and 65% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch programs. English is a second language for 27% of our students, and most will be the first in their family to attend college.
Students commit to a minimum of two years of intensive six-week summer sessions and after-school programs in which they take classes in core academic subjects, and participate in elective courses ranging from astronomy to African-American literature. A tuition-free program, Breakthrough's classes are rigorous and small (a maximum 7:1 student to teacher ratio) and full participation is expected of every student.

171. Phonics Books, Phonics Programs, Phonics Pathways | Dorbooks, Inc.| Reading Prog
Features books and games that teach reading and spelling with direct, systematic phonics.
http://www.dorbooks.com
Phonics Pathways wins another first-place award for "Best Phonics Program" ....read more

Why Study Phonics with Dorbooks?
Because at Dorbooks, Inc. we believe that reading, like any other complex skill such as dancing or playing the piano, is most effectively taught gradually, one note, one step at a time until whole groups of notes, or steps can be combined into an entire song or dance routine. Dorbooks, Inc. publishes phonics books and phonics games teaching reading and spelling using direct, systematic phonics . Sounds and syllables gradually build into words and sentences. Phonics is the process - sight reading is the result.
