General Info Student Work ... Search Welcome to Music Tech Teacher This site is an extension of the music technology classroom at Central Park School in Birmingham, AL. I have been teaching Instrumental Music at Central Park since 1992. Our Music Technology Lab was created from my band storage room in 1997. My students are learning to read, write, compose and publish their music to CD's and the Internet. Student work, pictures and music compositions are on this site. The site is also used to provide music technology links, quizzes, resources and information to all music teachers interested in using technology to enhance music instruction. As I teach in-services to our school music teachers, I will post notes and handouts. I hope that the site will serve as a valuable resource for teachers and students.
Thank you for visiting!

Eric Berne's Transactional Analysis - early TA history and theory
Transactional Analysis is one of the most accessible theories of modern psychology. Transactional Analysis was founded by Eric Berne, and the famous 'parent adult child' theory is still being developed today. Transactional Analysis has wide applications in clinical, therapeutic, organizational and personal development, encompassing communications, management, personality, relationships and behaviour. Whether you're in business, a parent, a social worker or interested in personal development, Eric Berne's Transactional Analysis theories, and those of his followers, will enrich your dealings with people, and your understanding of yourself. This section covers the background to Transactional Analysis, and Transactional Analysis underpinning theory. See also the modern Transactional Analysis theory article
    roots of transactional analysis
Throughout history, and from all standpoints: philosophy, medical science, religion; people have believed that each man and woman has a multiple nature. In the early 20 th century, Sigmund Freud first established that the human psyche is multi-faceted, and that each of us has warring factions in our subconscious. Since then, new theories continue to be put forward, all concentrating on the essential conviction that each one of us has parts of our personality which surface and affect our behaviour according to different circumstances.

    Recommended books on teaching
From what I've written and from what you've heard and seen yourself, you probably know that teaching is an incredibly difficult and stressful job. The challenges and conflicts that I've listed barely represent a tenth of different types of difficulties you can expect to encounter if you join TFA. To get a clearer idea of both the highs and lows that come with teaching, and to find out how other people have dealt (or failed to deal) with them, you might want to read some of the following teacher memoirs:
    Losing My Faculties
    by Brendan Halpin
Reluctant Disciplinarian: Advice on Classroom Management from a Softy Who Became (Eventually) a Successful Teacher
by (former TFA corps member) Gary Rubinstein
As you can probably tell from the title of this one, it's half memoir, half self-help for teachers. If you're thinking about joining TFA, you might find this book useful both as a window into the lives of inexperienced teachers and as a source of tips on how to run your classroom.
