The following article provides descriptions of diverse educational experiences designed to foster reflection on oneis belief and values leading to positive decision making. The authors call for a social action and participation approach to the teaching of social studies as well as the development of a valuesbased literature curriculum. Educating children to take personal responsibility for their actions is both a parental and a societal responsibility.
