Interactive Mapping and Data Analysis ... Welcome to the interactive mapping and geoscience data analysis home page. To provide direct access to our digital data sets, we have developed the following web-based application tool. Although our main goal is to develop an information system for the entire globe, currently, there are regions of special interest, such as the Middle East, North Africa, and the United States, where more detailed data sets can be found. If you are unfamiliar with some abbreviations we used in the data sets sections, you can either check a short list of abbreviations we set up or read more details in the metadata section. Please visit our projects pages to obtain more detailed information about our current research activities at the Institute for the Study of the Continents (INSTOC) and the Department of Geological Sciences at Cornell University. The following Java applet requires and/or Internet Explorer (version 4.0 or later) . It has unprecedented ability to dynamically interact with large volumes of organized digital data sets. It allows you to map and display any parts of the data sets according to your purposes. Using this applet you can make your own maps in any region on earth and display available data sets, identify features, and download maps. Welcome to the Interactive Map and Data Server (IMADS). Currently there are limited applications, but as our expertise grows, our application list will too. This server has two objectives: To provide web-based access to geographic data for non-GIS users as well as staff trained in GIS To create a simple process for querying and displaying geographic and tabular data pertaining to the administrative and natural resource responsibilities of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS). Much, if not all, of our data within the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is spatially related - linked to a point on the ground. Whether the data source is a wildlife refuge, endangered species critical habitat, migratory bird survey location, or even program administrative information, such as bridge and dam safety information, there is a geographic component. Navigating through IMADS will require some Windows skills. We have included a help document that contains information on the functions of the tools available to navigate and query the maps, the data used, and sample queries. You can minimize this help document at any point so that it will remain available while you navigate through the mapping application; all you need to do is click on the name at the bottom of the screen to maximize the document again. Welcome to i-MapNJ DEP , one of NJDEP's environmental mapping tools that can provide you with information about your neighborhood, county, or state (NJ). With this easy-to-use application, users can view and query the best of the NJDEP's Geographic Information System (GIS) data. Homeowners can find out what's in their backyard; environmental organizations, planners, realtors, and builders can identify open space, various regulatory boundaries, sensitive lands, watersheds, and much, much more. The i-MapNJ DEP application updates the GIS layers found in the other NJDEP i-MapNJ applications including, i-MapNJ NJEMS. (This application does not provide a link to the NJEMS enterprise NJDEP database. The enhancement of this function is planned for an i-MapNJ release later this year.) GIS data is accessed in "data layers" in the i-MapNJ DEP application. There are over 40 GIS layers included in i-MapNJ DEP. The newest data layer is the Highlands Region , a preservation area established by the Highlands Water Protection and Planning Act signed by Governor James E. McGreevey on August 10, 2004. Other data layers include the Surface Water Quality Standards, Category One Waters, Deed Notices, several county soils (SSURGO), three additional Landscape 2.0 layers and the 2002 digital imagery. These indicators include the Natural Amenities Scale, the Rural Typology Code, the Urban Influence Code, the Rural-urban Continuum Code, the Rural-urban Commuting Area Code, population change, the unemployment rate, and median household income. You can examine the data and get information about the features on the map, move to different geographic levels, and change data layers. For example, a user can select a state, zoom into a specific county and display the data attributes of that county. New indicators and features will be added in the future. I encourage you to check it out. For one thing, it's department data are more up to date than mine. It also will give you additional data layers, such as highways, counties, and urban areas, when you zoom in. However, it is slower to use unless you have broadband, and I had problems several times with the tool buttons not showing up after a zoom or refresh. Oklahoma State's map was made with Internet Map Server technology (ArcIMS). When I started my map, this technology was not available; I made mine by making smart maps, turning them into dumb graphics, making image maps out of the dumb graphics, and then making html pages to put them in. This is one of the reasons I haven't updated the map very oftenit is a cumbersome process. However, after looking at OK State's map, I think there is still a place for mine on the web, so I am working, off and on, on a major update, which I hope to have completed before the end of summer 2005. Many of the links are out of date and others need to be added. I also want to add institutions that offer Associate degrees in geography or geographic technology, and to include Mexico. To those of you who have been faithfully emailing me with corrections and additions, my thanks for your patience and apologies for the long delay.
