United Church of Christ endorses gay marriage
Approves resolution for same-sex unions, opposes gender-specific definition
ATLANTA - The United Church of Christ's rule-making body voted overwhelmingly Monday to approve a resolution that endorses same-sex marriage, making it the largest Christian denomination to do so. The vote is not binding on individual churches, but could cause some churches to leave the fold. Roughly 80 percent of the members of the church's General Synod voted to approve the resolution. They debated for about an hour before voting. On Sunday, a committee of about 50 United Church of Christ representatives gave nearly unanimous approval to the resolution, recommending that the General Synod approve it. It was supported by the UCC's president, John H. Thomas. Traditionally strong in New England, the liberal denomination of 1.3 million members has long been supportive of gays and lesbians. Gender-specific definition rebuffed
The committee also voted against an alternative resolution defining marriage as between one man and one woman. A small group of conservative congregations had proposed that amendment, and suggested that approval of gay marriage could lead to the church's collapse.

OFFICE OF THE AG PUBLICATIONS CONTACT US SEARCH ... Contact the Registrar Charitable Trusts The devastation of Hurricane Katrina has inspired many Californians to get involved in raising donations to aid disaster victims. To ensure that the money raised and gifts collected are being used for charitable purposes, impromptu fundraising can trigger the need to register and report to the Attorney General unless certain steps are taken. See A GUIDE FOR INSPIRED FUNDRAISERS
Attorney General Lockyer says Californians should be alert to scam artists trying to take advantage of people's compassion, generosity and desire to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The Attorney General offers these tips and encourages donors to report fraudulent charities and suspected con artists trying to exploit the natural disaster:
  • Take action on your own, instead of responding to solicitations from unknown sources . Consumer warnings already are circulating on bogus "charities" seeking donations in southern Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida.
Stick with established charities, rather than ones that spring up overnight for disaster relief.

Whispering Cedars Baptist Camp exists to provide campers of all ages with the opportunity to make life changing decisions through unique camping experiences and the preaching of God's Word.
Our Camp Profile
In 1970 the Council of Six prayerfully ventured out to meet our fellowship's need to obtain a campground that would be under the ownership of the Nebraska Association of Regular Baptist Church's. After much time of searching the committee found some land that was available near Genoa, NE located 2 miles north of Highway 22. The land was purchased, and the final signatures were placed on the documents in October of 1971. The camp has been going since then with many improvements made since the beginning days of the camp. Affiliation: Whispering Cedars Baptist Camp is a ministry of the Nebraska Association of Regular Baptist Churches. The NARBC is a group of fellowshipping, independent, fundamental Baptist churches who are affiliated with the General Association of Regular Baptist Churches. The camp is also a member of Christian Camping International.

General Synod
Synod? What does that mean? Speaking literally, it's a 14th-century Greek-rooted word, and it refers to the government of a church. For us, it's the annual meeting of representatives from all over the denomination who gather to make decisions that affect church life. This group of representatives is called the General Synod of the RCA. The General Synod has authority in all matters that relate to denominational programs and policies. Its representatives are elders and ministers of Word and sacrament from all of the RCA's forty-six classes. ("Classes" is the plural of " classis General Synod delegates vote on recommendations that various RCA program agencies, commissions , committees, and task forces have sent to the synod. They also vote on overtures sent to synod by the classes and elect the vice president of synod, who typically is elected president the following year. General Synod meets in early June, at a different site each year.

Media contact: Juan Michel +41-79-507-6363 media@wcc-coe.org On 24 July, World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Dr Samuel Kobia will deliver the keynote address at the annual conference of the International Council of Christians and Jews (ICCJ), in Chicago. Reflecting on the conference's theme "Healing the world - working together. Religion in global society," Kobia will stress the vital role of interreligious initiatives for promoting peace and justice. Rabbi David Rosen of the American Jewish Committee will respond to Kobia's address. Among other issues, Kobia will discuss the WCC central committee's recent call to member churches with investment funds to consider not participating economically in activities related to Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories as a way of putting pressure on multinational corporations benefiting from it. Expressing its commitment in the area of interreligious relations and dialogue, the WCC organized a major international multi-faith conference last June in Geneva. The conference was attended by over 130 representatives of the world's main faith communities. ICCJ vice president, Rabbi Ehud Bandel of Jerusalem, was among the Jewish participants. The Germany-based ICCJ is an umbrella organization of 38 Jewish-Christian dialogue groups worldwide. Created in the immediate aftermath of World War II and the Holocaust, it aims at promoting better understanding between Christians and Jews.
